Question about JVC 32x Optical Zoom MiniDV Camcorder

Open Question

Why isn't the record function working?

Appear to have problems with the record function. When I put the side switch down to play the red light comes on and you can hear/see a picture on the LCD screen. Mow ever when I move it to record, nothing happens. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. jane

SOURCE: Will not play back

Usually if there is no impact injury involved or nagging intermittent past problems, you probably have a head cleaning issue. Try a dry type (reccomended) cleaning tape. Should be able to purchase at Best Buy or similar store. Good luck, magic seadog

SOURCE: sound picks up when recording, but no picture through viewfinder or LCD screen

Apparently this same problem exists on many different models. I have a JVC grd72u. I called JVC @ 800-252-5722. I selected the "Corrective Action Program" prompt from the automated attendent. I spoke to a customer service rep. They are aware of the problem and are fixing it for free, but only until 12/31/07. I suggest you call ASAP and get your name in the computer. If the problem is something besides the CCD sensor, they will call you with the estimate to repair.

SOURCE: Lens Cap Error

You have a defective CCD imager - the part of the lens that receives the image. Will need to be replaced.

Why will the Pioneer RT 707 not work in playback mode?

No it is the same motor for both functions. Just check does the record/play switch operate or move when you operate the record function? I have a hunch that is the problem it may also be that the switch contacts are dirty or worn.Try to play a recording you made on another machine if it does sound and play on the other machine then the problem can only be this switch. Some more upstairs decks do have separate amplifiers for play and record .Nakamichi. Studer Revox Tandberg Uher and the such comes to mind These are those machines offering "Off tape" recording monitor. Then it will sport three heads and not only two I hope this gives clues where to start looking for problems

How do you record on a Lanier p-164

Turn the main power button "on" first, it is located on the skinny side of the recorder opposite of the function knob. Press eject to open the cassette door and install a microcassette tape, with the tape facing the function knob side. close the cassette door and that should load the tape and allow the tape head and pinch roller to move into place for recording or playback. pull the function knob down or push it up to record. If you go into record a red light should come "on" the top, to indicate good batteries and the record function is initiated. After recording pull the function knob all the way down to rewind the recording, when you release the button the unit goes into the play mode automatically. Make sure that the button that reads (off--- vor/fplay) is in the off position.

My TRO651 Toaster-R-Oven does not work on any function and the blue light does not come on. I removed the right side cover and checked all the connections, then I cleaned the two sets of contacts with fine...

May not be too hard to fix. On the thermostat, you will see 5 wires coming from it. black and white on top (leave those alone), and on the bottom of the switch, there are red white and blue wires.
The white wire with the burnt connector(from use) is the problem. I had that switch apart, seen how it works. The 3 wires at the bottom (red, white, blue) is like a spst center off switch with white being the common center wire. Red is for oven, and blue is for toaster. After I rebuilt the switch the first time, and it happened again, I just bypassed switch by connecting that burnt bottom white connector, to the red timer wire connector. Oven will work, toaster will not. The oven turns off when timer runs out. Can also unplug or turn down thermostat all the way so it does not use much power when done using till timer runs out. If you have a spst(center off) switch, you can mount that too to the side panel if you find one rated for it. Just make sure the bottom white wire is used as the common center wire.
B&D will not sell that switch that is broken. I tried that before I took that switch apart. Glad I did take it apart as I am sure their new switch would have failed quickly as well.

Red light above display flashes but no functions working

hi Dave
I'm not the most technical person in the world but I think I've fixed mine which had the same problem this afternoon, which is how I came to find your message!
Right.. here's what I did. It would appear that you have some kinda mechanism jam (even if there's no disc in it), so... please excuse my non-techie terminology throughout.
By the way, I probably don't need to tell you this but unplug the unit from the mains first or you might light up if you touch something!
Working with the unit facing you (control side), remove the two small screws at the back (on the metal flange) and two medium screws from the right hand and left hand sides of the main casing, then slide it off from front to back so that you can see inside the recorder. If you look in and down at the CD tray transport mechanism you should see a white plastic 'cog' wheel on the left hand side of the unit near the bottom 'floor' of the machine. Carefully rotate this wheel with a finger CLOCKWISE (pushing the wheel from front to back), slowly and gently - don't force it - and you should see the CD tray mechanism and gubbins start to move; keep rotating until the tray comes right out, or as far as you think it goes. Then, plug the unit back in, and switch on - the tray SHOULD then be taken back into the machine, the red light will flash, and the display should come on. As I say, mine has, so try it and I hope it works for you!
All the best (we'll beat these damn machines yet!)

No recording occurs when in record mode

If the red light does not blink while you speak, then the internal microphone is bad or a wire has broken off. If it is blinking, the record playback changeover switch is bad. This part is difficult to replace. Repair cost should be around $75.

this recorder is constantly getting bad reviews, I think it is unfair because mine does the job, however this problem occured heres what you do.
turn off at the mains and wait 20secs turn back on and hold the standby button untill a light appears.
in sequence up down left right menu ok press the buttons on the front of the box wait 60 seconds and the normal red light will appear turn on box and there you go.
Good Luck further issues visit www.topuptv.com WARNING- doing this procedure will swipe your library but i think it is the only solution
