Hi!

I want to buy a cpu that has windows 2000 or XP. Where would you suggest that I go to get a good price for the cpu only? I would even consider refurbished.

Most used computer stores will have Windows XP installed on their computers. They often have a warranty just in case. The other way is to look in local newspapers under classified.

The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

Like to replace my processor which is AMD Duron 900MHz to Motherboard Gigabyte 7VM333M-RZ. Which current processors are compatible with this board? Please advise. I want a current fast processor.

Hi, As far as I can see, this motherboard is very old, and the faster processor you could get would be around 1.8 ghz, single core. Here's the list of supported processors:
http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Gigabyte/7VM333M-RZ.html
What I would suggest is that you buy a motherboard/cpu combo, then you could get a quad core with a recent motherboard for less than 150-200$. Of course you'd have to be willing to change your motherboard, but unfortunately, you're not gonna get a good processor with your current motherboard, and computer parts (like Ram, hard drives, video cards) are going to cost more and more for their rarety, while they are less performant.
Best of luck to you!

Changing windows 4 to windows 2000 xp

First off, there is a big difference between windows 2000 and xp.
She needs her windows 2000 install disks and to re-install windows. Then she needs to install her service packs onto it. Either that or upgrade to windows xp. Id suggest she upgrade if she has decent hardware(memory, cpu and hard drive space)

There is no shortcut or work around unless you want to start using pirated stuff, which is probably not a good idea since most of that stuff is just an avenue for viruses and backdoor programs.

Any. I got old one amd processor of 1,2 Ghz and I am looking around what I can do before I done this old pc to my kids. motherboard is 7vt600p-rz of gigabyte

Windows 2000 SP4 will run faster on it, if it is with XP. Win 98Se is just a sadistic idea. As for hardware, nothing cost-effective imho. SDRAM is really expensive, even if you have a free slot. This CPU will not utilize more than 512MB/1GB anyway. Even if faster CPU is supported, it is probably not worth again. Still, check on e-Bay if you enjoy the upgrade. Overclocking is not the strong side of AMD. But if you ask around your friends and get a RAM or CPU, or HDD at 7200 rpm for the OS (yours might be 5400 rpm), which they will never use for low or no price, things change. You can also do a fresh install.

I can't get the driver software for the hcl infinity powerlite6010 so what can i do......

I would suggest 'Microsoft Download Center' for any driver downloads. You didn't say 'which' drivers you need, but Microsoft usually has them, if not Download.com has an unbelievable selection of free driver downloads categorized by Make, Operating System, etc. HCL lists your PC as Windows XP-ready, so you also might want to consider an upgrade. I've owned both Windows ME and Windows 2000 and believe me you will appreciate the XP. Also, Microsoft doesn't support ME any longer and has little for Windows 2000, but guarantees XP support through 2014. Good Luck!

I just installed xp pro and it keeps freezing

To get into the Windows 2000 / XP Safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key" which should bring up the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" as shown below. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.
Note: With some computers if you press and hold a key as the computer is booting you will get a stuck key message. If this occurs, instead of pressing and holding the "F8 key", tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu.
Trouble Getting into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe mode - If after several attempts you are unable to get into Windows 2000 or Windows XP Safe Mode as the computer is booting into Windows, turn off your computer. When the computer is turned on the next time Windows should notice that the computer did not successfully boot and give you the Safe Mode screen.

I would suggest that you run only one stick of Ram at a time to determine if they are the problem.. Also these CPU's had heat problems that damaged the cpu. This also causes freezing. I would consider resetting the CPU and the heat sink, and case fans are clean and working.

What laptop should I choose

I would go with the IBM ThinkPad. I trust this brand and always used a ThinkPad. Even my 1996 ThinkPad 560 still runs great with Windows XP on it. I own a ThinkPad T40 aswell and runs windows Vista on it well.

Hi, the only reason that comes to mind here is your version of XP. A retail version will load on almost anything, a version supplied with a brand name computer may only be suitable for that brand, Dell/HP etc. Sorry if I am not much help, don't discard your old board, you could buy an add on card for ide connection then disable the onboard one and continue with the old system.
