What does "there is no definite scintigraphic evidence for active hypermetabolic neoplastic disease" mean?

Hello Peggy

You should really be asking a physician rather than a bunch of amateurs on a site like this. It tells me that they used a radioactive dye (scintigraphic evidence) and injected it into you before or during the scan to light up your lungs from the inside. The results show there is no active disease (tumor).

Hypermetabolism
is the physiological state of increased rate of metabolic activity and is characterized by an abnormal increase in the body's basal metabolic rate.

The word neoplasm, meaning new growth in Greek, refers to any abnormal growth, whether malignant or benign. Neoplastic disease refers to both malignant and benign growths. All types of cancer fall into the category of malignant neoplastic diseases.

So it is good, your lungs are clear of cancer :>)

Am I able to get a disability if I have cancer?

This question is way too general. It depends on the type of cancer. Some types of cancer will guarantee you disability. Those types of cancer are: Inflammatory Cancer of the women's chest (they won't let me submit the answer with the correct "b" word); Cancer of the Pancreas; Mesothelioma of the Pleura; Metastatic Brain Carcinoma; Metastatic Spinal Cord Carcinoma. Oat Cell Cancer a.k.a. Small Cell Cancer of the Lungs; Primary Cancer of the Bile Ducts, Primary Cancer of the Gall Bladder; and Primary Cancer of the Liver.

You need to show proof that you've been diagnosed, CT scans, MRI scans, X-Rays, doctor's office visits related to the disease, proof of hospital stays related to the disease, and any other documents that prove you have one of the types of cancer that automatically qualifies for disability. You also need to prove that you are unable to work, not currently working, and that the situation (your ability to work or not) will not change in the near future.

For all other types of cancer, you have to show proof, including statements from physicians and specialists, that you cannot work at ANY job and that you have no other means (such as money in property or savings accounts) that you could live off of.

If you increase the number of cigarettes you smoke, then you will increase your risk for lung cancer, so what is the independent variable?

Cancer risk is changed by quantity of cigarettes smoked. Therefore cancer risk is dependent on cigarette smoking. Cigarette quantity is not changed by cancer risk. Therefore cigarette smoking is independent of cancer risk.
