Question about Cub Cadet Garden

How can I tell if my starter is bad on my cub cadet rtz mower

I have 2009 Briggs and Stratton 50 in zero turn mower that won't turn over. I have changed the spark plug and that did not work. The mower will sound like it is going to start but the engine never catches. When I am trying to start it the battery goes from 12 down to 9.8 on the meter. It has gas. What do you recommend

Check for spark

Have to get the test plug for small engines

Is the battery years old & partially dead?

Is the oil clean & full

Won't turn over or won't start?

Clean the flywheel & ignition coil or whatever
system it has for spark

Check for intake gasket leaks.

Did the meter always go down to 9.8 when it did start?

Your best to work on things & learn-- when they work correctly,
not wait for years then be lost

The battery is brand new, as well as the spark plug, and the fuse. The battery always drops when I try to start it but I took the battery in today and it was bad. I installed the new battery and it still won't start. When I turn the key it sounds like it will start but it does not.

It may have just been a bad connection to the spark plug. By taking the wire on and off you may have cleaned it enough to work. Also the cable may have some trouble and removing and reinstalling put it in a different position.

I have an cub cadet rtz 50 briggs and stratton 26hp motor. I'm trying to take off the starter. I got the bolt closest to the oil spout off. The other one is a booger. Its so close to the round part of the...

I've always pulled the flywheel off, the last thing you want happening is that bolt backing out because you couldn't get it torqued tight enough after you replaced it. That backed out bolt can do a lot of damage not only to the flywheel but to your new starter as well.

I have a z force s cub cadet. The battery is good. Tested and passed. the engine/started must work hard to turn over, but still won't catch. I will jump the tractor and it will start and run.

You may want to try to find a battery with a stronger amperage rating. Even if the battery passes if it is borderline for starting it new it may not be strong enough even if it's still okay for it's battery type.

Other causes:
A worn starter can cause this issue. If a few of the coils shorted the starter will work but require much more current to do the job

A bad relay/solenoid to the starter that doesn't allow enough current to go through can cause this.

Valves out of adjustment... especially on some Briggs and Stratton engines, it's a known issue that if the valves need adjustment the motor can require a lot of energy to turn over and can cause constant hard starts.
