Your laptop might have a lot of side programs running by default. You can go to your task manager to see. Push ctrl+alt+delete. This will pause the screen and there will be a task manager option. From there you can monitor what is running at the time and how much memory it is taking up. It helps do to this every now and then to your laptop because sometimes programs will sneak into the "open when computer starts" option.

Internet connection is slow or does not connect

Update your drivers and empty your cookies and temp folders by deleting the cookies and temp files. If that doesn't help you'll need to check your cable connections and cable for damage and settings in your router. Your network card should be a 10/100 capable card. Your router maybe sending at 10 mb per second instead of 100 mb per sec which would be a marked and visible decrease in speed compared to the wireless which uses an 802.11 protocol at 108 mb per sec.

I am using the Dell Latitude D620, When i am connecting this machine on network I am getting 100 MBPS connectivity, but when i am connecting other machine to the same network port I am getting 1GBPS...

Hi Ajay,

The LAN (wired network) connectivity speed/data rate depends upon the networking hardware (Laptop Ethernet Cards, Switch, Router etc.).
To get 1Gbps connectivity you must have 1Gbps ethernet (LAN) card in the laptops. As Dell Latitude D620 has 1Gbps card, the problem could be with the switch or router, which may be having 100Mbps and 1Gbps ports, depending upon the equipment you are using and it is recommended that you check out the its full specification. If you connect laptop to 100Mbps port you can only get 100Mbps speed. To get full speed, it is required to have 1Gbps support at both ends.

Dont forget to rate the solution if it helps!!

My network card is only allowing 54mbps , I have 1.5gig dsl with a 300mbps router Do i need a new network card the driver is updated to last update

Your wireless network card is more than sufficient to handle the bandwidth provided by your DSL connection. A "1.5" DSL connection refers to a 1.5Mbps DSL line. Your network card is an 802.11G network card. Simply put, your network card will only run at a maximum of 54Mbps, far short of your 802.11N router's maximum speed, but provides more than enough room for the bandwidth provided by your Internet Service Provider. Gigabit connections (connections with speeds measured in 'Gbps') are almost exclusively for private networks or corporate networks with Fiber Optic connections.

In layman's terms, you can get a newer network card for your computer that will improve the speeds between your laptop and any other computers on your network, but as long as your network card is supported by any modern operating system, odds are it is able to transfer data fast enough to keep up with your DSL connection

Down load speed very slow just upgraded to 10mg from 2mg how do l find out what speed l,m getting

Check the Bandwidth at which your Network is communicating and also try to find if any other program is utilizing the Network traffic. If its a windowsxp system press start - Run - taskmgr.exe and go to tab network. Check for the speed and all other details of your Network communication. If every thing seems fine and the network is showing clear bandwidth with no utilization when you are not working on any network system, you may have to check with the IS Provider. If there is a high utilization of the network traffic or atleast any during idle time, please check your system for malware, spyware, adware or any other malfunctioning program using a good anti-virus software.

Good Luck.

Belkin Pre-N Wifi - Speed problem

When using a laptop that has a N-wireless card the computer will to connect to a G-wireless router the laptop will be able to connect but because the router is a G-wireless the speeds will not be as fast. speeds around 10 to 20 Mbps is about normal. I don't know why your computer is saying that you are getting speeds around 108 Mbps. Residential computers don't reach speeds that fast but some business computers running off of an T-3 internet will have speeds up to that high so that they can keep up with large amount of data being transferred over there networks. As for the USB, i have seen an USB adapter that was g-wireless at at Wal-mart for about $20-30.

How do i have a usb port run a high speed device

The USB port in your computer is not the new high-speed USB 2.0 version, and when you plug a USB 2.0 device in you will get that message. Most USB devices will still work but not give best performance. Just close the message window.

The network cable unplugged message can be disabled through the network settings. Normally Windows is set to display that message when there is no network cable connected. You can just ignore the message.

Ethernet LAN

That is a network card that has the abililty to automatically adjust it's speed between the old standard of 10MBps network systems all they way to the current 1000MBps, (1Gigabit LAN) network speed. And RJ45 is just a typ of connector that all network cabling uses. It's kind of a double-wide version of a phone plug.
