Thank you - bypassing the GFI did the trick. But confused why the same unit worked for almost 9 years on that outlet. Saw something about perhaps being a bad diode online? Could that be the case? I appreciate your time & response.

Brad...the reason the GFI trips with your new refrigerator is because of the amp draw the control boards pull in order to properly run your ice maker while the compressor is also running. We are having the same issues in the field

Jared... Can you describe the sound. Is it a knocking sound or clicking?

  • Day Coker May 09, 2014

Brad you should also have your gfi check to see if it needs to be place they also weaken over time.

Thank you for the responses. Plugged into a non-GFI, it is working just fine. I replaced the GFI just before posting, bu the new one did the same. It would trip as soon as you would hear the water come on. No real sound other than the solenoid opening, then the snap of the GFI.

It's recommended not to plug refrigerators into gfi's due to regulated amp draws you'll find that if you use an extension cord and plug it into a standard outlet that issue will go away

SOURCE: Frigidaire signaling water dispenser instead of ice maker

Sounds like the water solinoid valves are wired wrong. One activates The water dispenser. The other the ice maker. That, why every so often the water shoots out on the floor. The ice maker is telling the valve to open.

SOURCE: Frigidaire Ice Maker not working

I have a Frigidaire side by side refrigerator freezer MRS20WRGW0. I had the thermostat-defrost replaced yesterday. Now the ice maker isn't working, doesn't have water in the "tray" part that makes ice, but does still dispense water through the door. What could be causing this problem?

That means your GFI is shot. You just need to buy a new one and replace it. Turn off the power before you do.

My under counter Uline refrigerator/ice maker suddenly trips GFI

I here this alot. If you have a compressor on a gfi the compressor after awhile would trip it. The compressor start amps is usually higher than the gfi is rated. So you have 2 choices. Replace the GFI and try to find one with higher amp ratings. Or install a normal outlet for your unit. Your code will usually call for a gfi, If it does then replace with a new gfi.
To explain the start amps on a compressor depending on your model could be 10 amps. This is for a split second. However the gfi can become week after time. You can also try to plug the unit into a normal outlet to make sure everything is good on the unit. I believe it is the gfi

GFI outlet is tripping because of refrigerator in the garage.

Hi: Yes, replace the GFI outlet. A refrigerator should not be plugged into one for what you are experiencing and food loss. This was an easy answer for me, but unfortunately not for you The owners manual covers this, but us men don't read them (Well I had to as I worked with them for 30 years). Good luck, Jeff

Mine is doing the same thing, but it does it within seconds of turning it on. I'd assume you as well have the digital thermostat. I've narrowed it down to what I believe is the flame ignitor (or the purple connector). Unplug it and it should eliminate tripping and order new part or get warranty part.
