Just shut it down for about 15 minutes and turn it back on. Every long warm up the machine will **** out the old ink and refull. Some of those odd sounds is a compressor emptying the print head.
You may not get the true blue you want. That is a shortfall on that machine, I have battled getting a greenish blue tint on that product.
Have not received a good answer from engineering. Frustraiting.

The printhead is stuck in the tilt position by the tilt arms. The process motor gearbox being out of sync can cause this error also. I've also seen the wiper assembly be stuck between the drum and printhead cause this. Pls take a look if there is a piece of paper beside the printhead..

This is your problem.
7,009.42: The printhead is tilted back but not properly restrained in the park arms.
This will require a certified Xerox technician to repair.
Hope this helps

The trailing cable is probably runing the printhead. Try replacing the printhead and trailing cable together. Parts available at: http://www.lpscomputer.com/c-622-designjet-5000-5500.aspx

Tips for a great answer:
Check for obstructions in the Wiper Assembly path.
Is the Wiper Assembly obstructed by the Printhead or wiring?
