SOURCE: Fan running,both cold settings at 4 , freezer 14 degrees C

you need to replace the start components on the compressor, theres a relay that mounts on to the compressor that takes out the start winding after it starts the compressor up. You can also try whats called a three in one to try to start up the unit. Good Luck.

SOURCE: I have an mbf2258wes freezer

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
But is probably a common defrost problem The ice build up
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

THE FILL TUBE IN BACK OF REFRIGERATOR CAN SLIP

REMOVE THE ICEMAKER AND INSPECT THE FILL TUBE.
RUN WATER IN TUBE TO ELININATE BLOCKAGE AND CHECK

OVERKILL AND USUALLY A WASTE OF ELECTRICITY TO KEEP IT THAT COLD, NOT TO MENTION THE FILL TUBE FREEZING UP

Freezer only gets down to around 18 degrees but fridge is fine. No frost on the freezer evaporator fan is running

Modern consumer refrigerators only have coils in the freezer. In the lower back of the freezer there is a small fan and possible a damper (flap that opens/closes) to push cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator. Given that the freezer is 18 deg, it's probably cold enough to keep the fridge area at typically 34 deg.
So the cooling system (compressor, coils, thermostat) are not working properly to keep the freezer at, typically 0 deg. Possible causes: partial loss of refrigerant gas, icing around evaporator coils (in freezer), compressor failing, dust clogging condenser coils (under fridge), condenser fan clogged or broken (under fridge), thermostat failure.
I'd start with condenser. Remove the slotted trim at the bottom front and look in with a flashlight. Are the coils clean? Pull out the fridge and remove the lower back cover (usually cardboard). You can now see the coils and fan. Clean and blow them out.
If it's icing, it probably means freezer door not closing tight. If auto-defrost not working properly it would probably get worse over the period of a few days so not likely.

Refrigerator is not cold (50);freezer is working; vents not blocked. What can I do? Fan is working, & compressor does kick on.

Nine out of ten times it turns out to be a defrost issue. What most people dont understand is the refrigerator gets its cool air from the freezer. If the evaporator coil in the freezer becomes a block of ice then the airflow from freezer to fridge section is blocked. The block of ice along with already frozen foods in the freezer compartment help to keep those foods frozen. Therefore you assume the freezer section is fine. However, the lack of cool airflow to the fridge side quickly turns that 38 degree air into 50 degree air. You could try unplugging the fridge and leaving doors open for 24 hours, this will thatw the evap coil. Plug it back in after the 24 hours, and within 12-24 hrs everything should be cool. If the fridge continutes to cool for about 3-6 days and then fails again, you certainly have a defrost problem. This is long winded, but hope it helps

I WAS ON YESTERDAY WITH THE SAME APPLIANCE A JENN AIR REFRIGERATOR JCD2389GEB. I NEED TO START AT THE BEGINNING. EVERY COUPLE OF WEEKS MY REFRIGERATOR ON TH ICE BOX SIDE WOULD GET WARM THE FREEZER WAS...

What you started out with was a defrost issue, adding freon made your problem worse, pressure on the low side when fully charged should be around 0 to 3 lbs.
the most common problem with theses units is the adaptive defrost control sits in the refrigerator section top right corner above the white plastic cover.part # 61005988 runs about $70.
Second most common defrost issue is the defrost thermostat # 61006199 runs around $45 comes wired in with the heater assy sits behind the wall in the back of the freezer. But first you need to get someone to evacuate the system and put in the right charge it will be on the model number tag on the ceiling of the fridge it's somewhere between 4 and 6 onces not pounds.

The refrigerator temperature ins 50 and the freezer is 15. Is this the appropriate temperature? The butter is soft at this temperature

the fridge should not be above 40 degrees and the freezer not above 30. check back wall of freezer for frost. if so, coils are iced up and need to be defrosted. either take off back wall of freezer and melt ice with warm water or hair dryer, or unplug unit and let it set with doors open for a day. then clean up the water.

MSD2454GR Side by Side refrigerator- freezer side fine, refrigerator side will not cool below 50 degrees; lots of condensation

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat.

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp ..

FREEZER WORKS GREAT BUT FRIDGE NOT SO GOOD-COILS CLEAN

Sounds like a evaporator fan or defrost problem. Your freezer should be colder then that, 5 degrees or below. Anyway, any cold air the fresh food compartment gets is blown over from the freezer, verify you can feel the air flow or visually see or hear the fan in the freezer compartment. If that checks ok more then likely your defrost system has a defect. This consists of a defrost timer or adaptive defrost board, a defrost terminator which is just a bi-metal thermostat set typically at 30 degrees or so and a heater element, either a calrod or 1 or 2 glass encased elements. When this system fails you end up with a block of ice on the coils through which air cannot circulate.
