Why will my laptop only work in safe mode?

Icons won't come up. Have to choose safe mode with networking, then things look distorted.

If the laptop is only loading in safe mode, it might be a recent software install or even windows update causing the problem, you should be able to access system restore in safe mode, use this to roll it back to a date before it stopped working.

To start your computer normally you must choose either of that options but the only thing you must choose is the start windows normally so that all the settings from the previous working settings will be applied in your windows start up.

My E5500 hangs up once on main screen. I can't get to stsrt menu& icons don't work.

Restart the computer and press F8. You'll get a list of startup items, choose Safe Mode with Networking.

Are you able to start Windows with that method?

Which version of windows are you running?

My desktop wont show, my icons, my start bar, nothin will show

Chances are your profile has become corrupt. There are a few ways to fix this. The one surefire way is to make a new profile and copy your My Documents from the old profile to the new one, as well as My Pictures to My Pictures, etc. To do this you should turn on the pc, and after the first black background screen with logo (most likely) goes away, start tapping the F8 button every second or two until a menu comes up with options like "safe mode" "safe mode with networking" etc. Use the arrow key on your computer and move the highlight to "safe mode with networking". Hit enter on you keyboard. You may need to hint enter once or twice more until you get to a login screen like what you may be used to. Choose your username and login. Hit ok on the initial safe mode screen. If your desktop loads with icons, then your profile is ok, something else is wrong. If your icons don't show up, then we know your profile is corrupt. If your icons are gone, shut down, follow steps to enter safe mode, but choose Administrator as the user, and hit enter with a blank password to enter Administrator profile. Once in there go to Control Panel, and then User Accounts and make a new user. Then restart the comptuter, log in as the new user, and copy your files from the old profile to the new one.
Let me know if this doesn't work and we will try something else.

What can i do when i turn it on the wallpaper shows without toolbar and icons and my documents pop out

Have you tried a safe mode boot (press F8 just before the win start screen and choose safe mode) to see what happens and check for the installed programs. Also try in safe mode with network, update your antivirus and do a full scan.

Try start up in Safe Mode press F8. Choose Safe Mode, when at the choice window, to select either Safe Mode Desktop, OR System Restore, chooses system restore and choose a time before you had the "Problem" and follow instructions. This should get you back.

I have had this e-machain for about 3 yrs and haqve not used for about 6 month and when i went to hook it back up it came on and the only thing on the window is E-Machine and i don't have any Icons i can...

You might try to start in Safe Mode; hold the F8 key down while starting the computer. When the screen comes up, choose "Start in Safe Mode with Network Support". The computer should start, get to icons and everything, if not, maybe your drive just decided to misbehave and time and restarting might shock it into restarting.

When i turned my computer on, the icons and the start button won't show up. what should i do? my computer is Dell Latitude d610

See if you can get to the desktop thru safe mode (hit F8 during boot and choose safe mode (with networking if possible otherwise just boot into safe mode)).

Once at the desktop install and run this program from a CDR or a USB stick. If the program tells you it prefers not to run in safe mode disregard this and continue with teh procedure. If your problem is malware related this will clean it up for you...

Desktop problem

Sounds like there is a program trying to run that is locking up your computer. what was the last program you installed?

If you know, when booting up, press F8 and go into safe mode. Uninstall that program. then reboot normally.

If this does not work, you may have a virus.

Lets start with this first though.
