Question about Yamaha RX-V995 Receiver

Open Question

The Volume knob on the receiver will not move when we try to turn up the volume from the remote control. We have changed the batteries in the remote several times.

This has been occurring for over a year. Tired of getting up and having to change the volume from the receiver.

SOURCE: Volume Knob does not adjust volume, but remote does.

Check your owners manual for "factory reset" this will reset the main micro-processor. Otherwise the encoder (volume pot) needs cleaning, soldering or replacement. It could also be a cracked circuit board (if it has recently been hit)

Unplug the receiver for a minute then plug it back in. This resets the controls. If you still have a problem, post a comment and I will help you troubleshoot further. Hope this helps

SOURCE: volume control

Unfortunately no, some of the newest "High End" Yamaha's have it. Are you using Cable TV or Verizon FIOS. Cable is the worst, FIOS has corrected this issue for the most part. It only seems to happen now when ABC news (Local) has a promo. If you have cable... COMPLAIN!! They will get the message! DSS has corrected this issue as well. Hope this is at least helpful...

SOURCE: Yamaha RX-V1000 volume control erratic, remote

Hi.

The volume knob issue alone sounds like it's hardware-related and therefore not easily fixed. Also, since the remote appears to be working (the LED's are lighting up), but the unit is not controlled anymore, the IR sensor is probably faulty as well. I would seriously consider sending this AV receiver in for repair. If it's still within warranty, you shouldn't need to pay anything for the repair.

Manual for your receiver: http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/pdf/av/english/re/RX-V1000.pdf

It's not much but I hope this helps.

Assuming your receiver came with the ability to be remotely controlled, then yes, a universal remote such as the Logitech Harmony etc, will be able to control the volume.

Pioneer vsx1021k volume drops by itself at 3db increments until there is no volume. M volume is displayed when this happens as if someone was manually turning the volume knob.

Dirty rotary encoder (volume control ). If you are confident with opening the unit yourself, a spray of contact cleaner into the encoder might help. Ideally u should replace it.
OR
The volume minus button on your remote is dirty/shorted. Try removing remote control batteries and see if the issue disappears.

Volume control does not turn volume down. Lost remote control CD Receiver LT-1

I have opened the same unit up. The volume control knob moves a plastic paddle against a right & left micro switches. The paddle is connected to the knob by a very thin piece of plastic which breaks very easily. I tried to glue a different piece of plastic on , but it only worked for a little while. It was a pain to assemble & reassemble the unit. I do not recommend trying it. Just buy another remote (about $35.00)!
Good Luck

It has lost partially the mechanical connection between the volume control knob and the volume control pot.

The knob could be "stripped". A drop of a slightly resilient glue should do the trick. Do not use rigid adhesives, as this will prevent future service to this area of your receiver....accordianman
