Dewalt D55141 air compressor air leak

I have a Dewalt D55141 air compressor that is leaking air inside the motor housing. I can't even figure out how to take the housing apart, so I can't see exactly what the problem is.

Hi mate this problem may be more than 1 1st it could be the piston rings gone and the air is leaking into the crank and has blown the crank seal but you can tell that if oil is coming out the rear off the pump unit also it could be the breather blocked which allows air in and out the breather is the oil filler cap. good luck

Its not leaking air. once you open the houseing you will see that the main drive belt is broken. call dewalt and get a new one. the fan spins without driving anything, causeing air to blow out.

There is a pressure regulator that is contained in the same housing as the on off switch. Take the housing cover off and see if there is a problem with the mechanics on the switch or the seal is bad.

Excessive air pressure buildup that's blowing safety valve and can hear air leaking inside unit.this compressor is only about a year old!thankyou.

Excessive air pressure...if your safety valve is truely popping off, is caused by a bad pressure switch or a loose wire connection at the switch. It's a little odd to be leaking too. There is a couple a possibilities here. The most common spots for leakage is the "tube seal", the aluminum transfer/supply tube, or the outlet air hose. Usually a leak will keep a unit from acheiving full pressure causing the unit ot run continuously. The other common leakage spot is the "check valve" and a leak here usually makes the auto restart (upon using air from the tank, taking pressure below the set lower limit), not work, stalling the motor and popping a breaker. See ereplacementparts for a proper breakdown and identification of parts. Spliting the clamshell is a "pain in the neck" for these little units, but you"ll likely have to do that to find your internal leak. Carefully avoiding electrically exposed parts, spray a soapy water solution at suspected joints if the leak is not obvious.

This is the car and truck section, but it sounds like you diagnosed it yourself - a leak in the motor or compressor.
Note, some leakage is normal for most compressors.

Why does my compressor just buzz when I turn it on?

that (more than likely) is the starter, but it also may have hit a bad commutator bar... turn off power, turn flywheel 1/8 (or so) of a turn, turn on power.

if it starts, purchase new motor because the commutator/brushes are dirty or shorted.

if it doesn't, replace the starter relay.

I believe that you have a very simple problem related to the in-tank check valve. Follow the discharge hose from the compressor to the tank. It should connect to a brass or chrome valve. This valve has a one way check valve that allows air into tank and not return to compressor (if air leaks back, compressor will be under load (motor will not overcome) and air will leak from the pressure switch unloader valve). With air in the tank, remove the hose at the check valve and spray soapy water to verify leak, replace part or clean as needed. Good luck

Check to ensure that the storage tank has no fluid in it, open the drain valve and blow it out. There may also be an inlet air filter on the compressor, make sure that is clean and there are no obstructions.

Dewalt d55141 Builds only 45psi

Check the unloading valve. Accumulation of dirt might be preventing the valve to fully close, by-passing a portion of the compressed air.
