Question about Royal 112MX Shredder
Worked fine at first. Any quick tips that I can do myself? Don't want to spend the money to send back.

a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

The 1280mx has a circuit that detects the high current when the motor is jammed. The 5 watt, 0.5 ohm resistor/fuse (marked as R1) that is part of this circuit blew on my unit. No visible signs of failure, you have to remove it from the circuit board to test it. When R1 fails more current than normal passes through the R2-1k ohm resistor; need to check if it also failed.

I had something very much like what you tell of.
Take off top with 4 hex/Allen screws, careful not to stress wires to panel rocker switch. support it somehow. Follow the line cord in and check the fuse, maybe we should have done this first, huh?
With VOM check cont of black lead thru fuse into safety switch adjacent. ON MINE IT WAS JAMMED. I could not free it, and surmising it was an interface with custom waste receiver which I did not have I bypassed it with a drop of solder. SUCCESS!!
But not quite. therre was still a pesky intermittent on/off that came and went.
Traced it all down to a cold solder, dry, joint on a red lead going to the front panel switch. Take it off, tighten tabs, solder what had been only crimped at factory and SUCCESS!!
All back together and there is a reason they call this thing ORCA:
Good luck with forensics as this thing delivers uniform quarter inch squares, confetti, no chance to decipher one damn thing.
Hope this helps, David Anshus

If the blades rotate then the paper should go in...just be sure the blades are turning in the forward direction and not in reverse. Also make sure you lubricate the blades with shredder oil.

If its dead...no lights, nothing, then the pcb inside has probably gone. Give Royal a call at 1-800-524-0799 for parts and prices.
