You must be referring to your outdoor condensing units. Yes it would be ok to cover and disconnect power, but I would suggest turning power back on, uncovering, and making a cooling test run long before you need it, after it warms up.

Sounds like a full cleanning job or the drain line is plugging up. First , check for A 10* lean toward the back of the unit for proper drainnage, 2- check for good air flow thru the front coils--(dirty filter --dirty coil and last ,add some clorox bleach all across the front coil while off>)

sure you can but you have to prepare it for the winter.

re-oil the fan motor and make sure you wrap the whole unit up with a plastic wrapper just like the one used in the kitchen, the one that you can stretch to cover a whole stainless food container. then put it in a box to further keep the moisture away.

then after the winter and you want to use it again,
unpack it and inspect the fan motor. make sure that it is freely moving without binding or sticking.
let it stand for a couple of hours so that if there is dew inside , it would evaporate first .
then you can use it again.

Check the pressure in the low side A/C line. My guess is the refrigerant is low and needs recharging.

How to store you air conditioner for the winter?

Make sure that you tip the A/C unit to remove water that has condensed in it. If water is left in the system over the winter/spring, it can rust out the evaporators in the A/C and cause problems with its functioning. Also, the water can serve as a breeding ground for mold and bacteria.

In many units no option to use manually without remote and also it's not advisable. With your statement, I conclude your remote is defective and not repairable. Replace with new remote. Helpful?

No its not. Bad valves are caused by dirty filers, dirty coils that cause liquid refrigerant to slug compressor and knockout the valves. Rus

Goldstar GWDH 5000 does not cool after storing this winter

sounds like low freon or a blockage in one of the lines, especially since the you say only one row of coils is cool. usually window a/c's have at least a 1-year warranty and since you are pretty close to that, the manufacturer may honor it. if not you will need to have the system fitted with a bullet piercing valve on the low side lines and see if the unit is low on freon with proper gauges. if it is not showing low then there is probably a blockage and the high side should be checked as well. if this unit was an expensive one it could be worth having it repaired. a simple recharge may cost less than a replacement, but anything else probably won't.

one needs to check if fans are running correctly otherwise, gauges need to be connected onto system.  assuming the condenser(radiator) is clean.
