The metal ones; they have a consistant shape and they hold it better than the plastic ones.

I am looking for bobbins for a JcPenny model 6900 sewing machine

Take one of your Cobb ins to a fabric shop. All you really need to worry about is the distance between the top and the bottom or else take a bobbin to a sewing machine retailer. There a about 3 different models of our valuable bobbins. I have a janome machine and I have found that both the metal and the plastic bobbins will work, all depending on that length measure the between the two ends. Hope this helps you.

I have a sewing machine model uhtj1276 i need part that i do not know what its called- metal ring with plastic piece that moves bobbin, this part is located under the bobbin on the shaft, plastic part

I'm not sure about what your explaining, If the bobbin drops into this part (plastic) it is called the bobbin carrier. If you take the carrier out and you see a metal hook going around and circles or bobbing back and forth this is called the hook. The bobbin carrier is most likely what you need. Try this web, they usually have everything: http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/instruction-book-janome-and-newhome-8000.aspx

Does the bobbin on a white 1418 thread clockwise or counter-clockwise?

You can download a manual from here http://www.singerco.com/accessories/manuals.html, just type in the model number and click on 'search' to locate your machine's one.

As a rule of thumb, the thread usually comes off a bobbin goes through the tension then reverses direction back the other way. So as you pull the thread, the bobbin usually turns anticlockwise. But always check the manual to be sure.
