Question about KitchenAid Refrigerators
I have a kitchenaid kscs25ftss02. Yesterday I changed the filter and was attempting to go through the air purging process by running 3 gallons of water through the filter. As typical the first gallon went moderately fast with some air sputtering. It was late and I didn't abide by the 5 second on 5 second off rule. I stopped and emptied my pitcher and went to do another gallon, again not abiding by the 5 second on and off rule, it dispensed maybe 30 ounces over a very long period of time. I stopped to give it a break and when I came back 10 minutes later the dispenser had stopped dispensing water. The ice dispenses fine and the solenoid clicks when i push the water lever. All the lights and such are on and everything else is working fine. How can I tell what's wrong and more importantly a DIY fix? Thank You. FCG

Water to the ice maker and to the dispenser are turned on and off by a coil on the dual water control valve. Unfortunately these coils cannot remain on for long extended periods of time. If the coils remain on for extended times they heat up and it's very possible that the coil on the water control valve for the dispenser has burned out. I'll get the part number and a description photo for you if you would like. I'm here and available for questions if you need any answers Thank You, John T. Appliance 911

Oakescreek, start with simple things first. Check the freezer door light interlock switch. This has to be closed to send power to the dispenser. If that is working ok, check the harness coming from the bottom of the freezer door for cracked or split wires. Check the harness plug itself to make sure it is completely connected. If these things check out ok, we will need to verify that we are getting voltage to the dispenser selection switch. If we are and it is still not operating..then I would suspect that to be the problem. I'll keep and eye peeled for a reply. Catriver.

this is not a solution, but an explanation- our repair man said that there is a line (tube) containing electric wires that passes from the frig to the door at the bottom of the door, near the hinge. for what ever reason, the line has broken, thus keeping the electric from getting to the motor that dispense ice and water- solution= $700 for a new door; we'll do without

1) remove the tubing connector behind refrig kickplate . Press for water . If no water comes from tube under refrig , then possibly frozen tank but probably not . Probably bad water inlet valve . ( tank is in the lower potrion of the refrig section behind the crispers ) .
2) if water does shoot out , then your freezer door is frozen which requires leaving door open and tapeing light switch closed and tape plastic around freezer section opening so fridge will continue to operate normally . Thawing freezer door could take a day or 2 . 3) You can plug the hoses back togather and walk by occasionally pressing water untill comes out . Lower your freezer temperature setting also ( could be set for too cold)

check for a child lockout button it will look like a tiny padlock ,press and hold for 3 sec.(could be the freezer door light switch)
