Why won't my calphalon toaster oven toast top of bread? Why?

If both the top and bottom elements are working then you may need to re-position the rack closer to the top element for even toasting. If there is only one rack position available then you may need to flip the bread and toast it twice.

Lost measuring cup

follow this test and fix it. God bless you
If the toaster doesn't work at all, make sure power is on at the electrical receptacle and test the power cord.
If the carriage lowers but doesn't latch or latches stiffly, look inside for food debris that may be blocking the carriage. If the latch is damaged or obstructed, service the assembly (see below).
If the bread toasts only on one side, check the heating elements for damage and replace as needed; or replace the toaster.
If the carriage doesn't pop up and the toast burns, check the thermostat calibration and correct any inaccurate calibration (see below).
If the thermostat is faulty, replace the thermostat or the toaster. Check the solenoid switch and solenoid; if faulty, service (see below) or replace.
If the toast is too light or too dark, check thermostat calibration and correct if necessary (see below)

Toaster won't stay in down position in order to toast - Cuisinart CPT-160 - although it will toast if I hold the lever down as it toasts

We opened up our toaster and scraped some baked-on crumbs off the top of the electromagnet that controls the carriage catch. When we closed it back up, it worked again.

Russell Hobbs RH2T toaster bread won't stay down w/o hold handle

Hi, most new toaster have a selenoid that hold down the handle while toasting then release when done so a spring bring the toast up. Possible problem with the selenoid, the electronic circuit that controls it or the plate that the selenoid holds. When you lower the handle you close the contacts of the AC line inside the toaster so if the handle is raised there is no power.

Tefal toaster wont stay down - Avanti Elite, twin.

Hi, I assume that you had the toast carriage pushed down when you check the solenoid (hold down coil) volts ? .. a bit dangerous to try though
Either way, try resoldering the solenoid connections, they can develop hairline cracks that limit the current.
