I have a GE side by side black refrigerator model GSS25PGMFBB. A few days ago the freezer compartment started warming up and water started draining to the bottom. At the same time the ice maker stopped functioning. I installed a new water filter and water flows through the dispenser but the freezer compartment still does not freeze and the ice maker does not make ice. Any remedial advise would be appreciated.

I just had the exact same problem. Will only cool to 48 degrees even at highest setting. Freezer still doing well.
This can either be a blockage problem, coolant problem, or a device problem..If you really have the patience to solve it and save some good money then... http://www.applianceaid.com/frig_notcold.html Good luck..

This sounds like the defrost heater is bad or dead. The refrigerator will not cool because frost is building up on the evaporator coils in the freezer section and the fan can no longer push air past the coils. You will find that the freezer will build up with frost. If you are brave enough, remove the cover in the freezer and you will see the coils are completely covered with frost (ICE). At this point with the refrigerator unplugged ( remove food). get a hair dryer or heat gun and melt all the frost. You will notice a heating element ( looks like a tubed light) -element will looked burnt out.
Replacing it at this point is easy. Before you start though, try to get the manual for your system and call around for a local appliance parts store to see if the part is readily available.

Mine started out in a defrost mode.
Then after unplugging it I noticed the freezer section was working fridge was not cooling.
There is a evap fan in the top of the freezer side to recirc the cold air through the whole unit.
My fan was dead. I checked it and it had no continuity. Put power across it, dead.
Going for a new part. $75
