SOURCE: Yamaha HTR-5990 Receiver

I JUST EXPERIENCED THE SAME SITUATION HERE IS THE SOULTION YAMAHA SENT ME TO RESET THE SYSTEM HTR-5990 YAMAHA HTR-5990 FACTORY PRESET PROCEDURES All models require the STANDBY/ON button to be turned OFF to start the reset process. NOTE: The remote control cannot be used during the reset procedure. All necessary buttons to complete the reset process are located on the front panel of the receiver. This procedure is not intended to correct intermittent shut-off symptoms or problems MODEL: HTR-5990 (U.S.A. model/s) (BEFORE YOU CONTINUE, PLEASE READ THE ABOVE NOTES!) 1. Before you start this procedure, locate the MASTER ON/OFF button and the STRAIGHT/EFFECT button on the Front Panel of the unit. 2. MAKE SURE THAT YOUR RECEIVER’S MASTER ON/OFF HAS BEEN TURNED OFF. 3. With the Right Hand, press and hold the STRAIGHT/EFFECT button. With the Left Hand, press the MASTER ON/OFF button and HOLD both buttons for no more than “3” SECONDS, AT THE SAME TIME. SP IMP. * 8 MIN. will appear on the display, which indicates you are in the Diagnostics Mode. 4. Rotate the PROGRAM KNOB to the right (ONCE) until the display reads PRESET *CANCEL. 5. Press the STRAIGHT/EFFECT button (ONCE) and the display will change to PRESET RESET. 6. Turn the unit off by pressing the MASTER ON/OFF button. 7. Wait 5 seconds, then turn the unit on by pressing the MASTER ON/OFF button. You have now reset your component to the factory settings. NOTE: Yamaha receivers don’t have to be reset during normal operation. It is not recommended that you reset the receiver unless a setting has been changed that you are not aware of, or the receiver is not operating properly. The reset procedure will clear an incorrect setting that might be causing abnormal operation. GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: Yamaha HTR-6030: all speaker have sound coming out

The surround system you have has two speaker options which allow you to run two sets of speakers. When I had one, one set (A) was used for surround sound, and set (B) by for speakers through out the rest of the house. I am going off memory, but there is a setting to add the rest of the speakers (Note that if one rear speaker has a bad connection), it will not allow you to use any of them). Make sure all your speakers for the surround are set up to (A) speakers (Do not use B speakers until you have your surround working), then use the shift and test button to check each speaker, you will hear static for the test. Note that the surround modes on this unit are not all standard, so I would highly recommend using an optical toss link cable. Also make sure you have an audio source that is outputting surround sound, and select the correct input. G-luck.

Look at the amp for disconnected wires. If OK then the amplifier may have blown output transistors.

Try changing surround modes - the center channel is not used in all modes. If that doesn;t work, check your speaker settingsw and make sure the center channel is not turned off

The signal that comes from most tv's via the optical output is a stereo signal only. That is what your receiver is reading. You would have to manually set your receiver to decode the signal into surround,.

configure ur PC (both OS audio and third party sound driver) for surround sounds. control panel- sounds and audio devices - speaker settings - advanced - speker settings. so this done. make sure u select the 6 input channel - the button is on the right edge near the volume knob. near the vol button there are two buttons for selecting input type with up down arrow. from that u can select the input type this will be indicated on the top front indicator. but with the 6 input channel selected all selections are preceeded. if u select stereo mode u will have left/ right audio only.
make sure u connect the input right. connect from computer to 6 channel input. main, surround, center and sub-woofer.  connect the spekers to main (L/R), rear(surround) (L/R), center and sub woofer to terminal marked sub woofer ouput. this done select like i said before the 6 channel button. that should do it.

Yamaha HTR-6030: all speaker have sound coming out but it is not true surround. The display only shows front speakers on, how do I get all speakers to come up on the display?

I think you mean the display only shows Front >>Channels<< available.

What source? Digital or analog (analog is only stereo).

Left from speaker not working- Yamaha HTR-5940-6.1 channel

Redbird,

What do you have in the "multi channel input" jacks on the rear of the receiver? Those inputs Right, Left, Center, Surround R+L, and Sub are used when selecting 6 channel mode. They bypass the receivers surround processor board.

The indicator is telling you you have a 2-channel input. You may have the Blu-Ray connected wrong. Or the source is only Stereo. I need more details to assess that.

The sound coming from all speakers is normal if you have any surround mode selected, regardless of the characteristics of the source

I imagine if you experiment you might find all speakers playing for any number of 2-channel sources, not just Blu-Ray. Besides actual Pro Logic decoding, the various surround modes can provide some interesting effects on non Dolby Surround material.

I recommend that you try them all on various recordings and you may find one or another of them preferable over vanilla stereo. I find that any given artist or music type, even within a given CD, may sound 'better' with different surround settings.

theres probably a problem with the right channel cable or plug that connects the tv to the reciever, or the tv is set to mono audio.
