Print quality problems C3400n

I have a 1 year old OKI C3400n. Recently the print quality has deteriorated significantly with colour photos in particular being 'very streaky'. Black seems to print fine but say a normally red block will show up with half of the red (about one inch from the edge of the page) printed properly but with the next one inch printed as red and yellow vertical lines. Any suggestions? Thanks

This sounds like a drum error. Take a look and the drum rollers. Some times the cleaning film that "scrapes" off the excess powder will separate from the backing and wrap around the drum. Or perhaps something foreign material has attached to the drum. Just take the drum out and have a look.

Hi, im having problems with my printer and any help would be greatly appreciated, i recently replaced the colour cartridge and tried printing photos with a bad result, the colours are not clear and do not...

trying to print a few pages and see if the color change color tone, you should feel an improvement in quality. (probably the Charter will require a new roll until the ink replaces the old print head), unless felt an improvement could be to blame and cartridges must be replaced with good quality

Tip

Inkjets and Laser Priners, Inks, Toners,...

Using recycled ink cartridges in your ink-jet printer is never a more economical way to do colour printing, unless you are willing to become a master technician on your particular product and have ready access to print heads and machine engine unit replacements, you will also need manufactures service software/website to reset waste counters/error codes.

It is expensive to print in colour full stop. Printing cost is at least 30cents ink-jet and 10cents toner/laser per sheet

Laser b/w and colour is far cheaper per sheet, but setup costs are one time expensive but they are also a lot more reliable printing system.

Your machine will stuff up sooner rather than later when using non genuine consumable, and when it does it will cost more than the machines worth to even look for repair, so be prepared if choosing this road to purchasing a new printer every few cartridges if you are lucky.

If your using non genuine products and you want machine looked at by a professional the first thing you will need to do is install all genuine products in to your machine to allow correct fault diagnostics to be done, this is before any repair cost that maybe incurred.

Recycled/refills/aftermarket ink cartridge faults include – not recognizing ink, poor print quality, error codes, wont come to ready, erratic carriage movement, lines, waste counter issues and also paper feed problems, circuit board/connection faults caused by leaked ink

All machine manufactures have websites where you can download drivers and software needed for operation with your computer

Listed below are the main sites, if you’re having trouble finding any then remember Google is your friend.

Cheap printing can be achieved using b/w lasers they cost less than 2 cent per sheet and have a brilliant reputation for print quality and dependability. Then if you need the occasional colour go to the shop, let them have the hassle, stress, time and expense of running the machines and the cost is still relatively cheap to you.

There are many consumers still printing with 10 year old laser machines, you would be extremely lucky to find a 3-5 year old inkjet. I did find one inkjet customer that impressed me. He runs a cake shop and he prints with a Epson inkjet that uses edible ink printed on paper like icing sheets to decorate his cakes.

If you must recycle well buy one that has already been proven to be adaptable to the concept, so that means go back to older units that were not so clever.

Older Lexmark, Epson and HP were once easy targets, there was and is a lot of development gone into managing bulk ink delivery systems, and software has been cracked and parts can be sourced

Most new machines come with starter inks that do not contain as much as new ones usually 3ml instead of 5ml to enable cheaper selling cost, but also note that about 2ml of ink is in the tubes that run from ink carts to print head. These modern machines have all sorts of tricks and chips inbuilt that will discourage any refilling attempts

People that need to do colour printing like more than 8 pages a day, should be using full colour toner based print systems.

ie OKI, HP, Brother, and Kyocera all have great reliable printing systems, The OKI c9600/9800 series is a brilliant photo quality aka What you see on display is what you get on the paper full colour laser printer

Happy Printing

Oki C3100 - v poor print quality

Hi Errol

The way to identifiy your problem is to send a full colour print to your printer and open the top just as the paper starts to come out . if you then remove your toner / drums for all the colours you can see the transfer belt if the quality of the image that you can see on the transfer belt is good and clear your problem is with the transfer form the tranferbelt to the paper and not any toner /drum issue and the most likley cause is the transfer belt itself "but before you relpace it remove it and clean around the electrical contact points and generally make sure the internals of the printer is free of loose toner .

Hi,
it sounds as if you may have the picture quality set to draft, its worth a check, especially if printing is ok. Does it print colour writing well too or just black, one of the colour inks may have a block or be low, go into printer settings menu and check what print quality its set for.

Poor quality print

Try cleaning the LED heads. These are located in the lid and are facing you when you have raised the lid. A quick wipe with a dry cloth or tissue should help. If in doubt, check the user manual.

New toners and drums, but flashing amber error light - won't print now

Have you replaced the printer drums? The status monitor will tell you what percent they are at (similar to the toner cartridge status). This fixed my problem before.

Hi..
Try this. Removed the color cartridge. Open the printer settings under Quality and check the box that says print in "greyscale" or "black and white.
This will rule out and color cart problem and also change the printer settings. You will have to change this back to print in Color,
Hope this helped........
