Unplug the printer for few minutes, say 15 minutes and then turn it ON.If the problem still remains, the next step would be re seating of print head. The procedure is explained below :-
If that does not help, this would confirm a faulty print head and needs replacement.Usually when you call Canon, they would offer a new printer in lieu of the old printer as buying print head is more expensive as compared to the cost of the printer.
