I just bought a used cobra 200 gtl dx im totally clueless to cbs could u tell me where all the controls and buttons should be

  • Hi, I can help.

  • I have uploaded a pic of the Cobra 200 and labeled each knob/switch with letters to reference.
  1. A) Noise blanker - When this switch is pushed the high pitched noises are canceled leaving a more natural sounding receive. Some like it some don't.
  2. B) High Power - This button adjusts the power output of your radio. Inside the radio the pots are adjusted for a low power setting and a high power setting.
  3. C) Roger Beep - This is a beep heard by the person you are chatting with at the end of your transmission.
  4. D) The 10+ KHz - This button when pushed jumps the frequency up 10 Kilohertz to help you better navigate frequencies.
  5. E) This is where you adjust how you are going to modulate. CW is for continuous wave or Morse Code. Unless you have a key don't worry about this setting. FM is for Frequency Modulation AKA the HAM bands. AM is for Amplitude Modulation. USB and LSB are for Upper Side Band and Lower Side Band respectively.
  6. F) is the band adjustment - Each band (A, B, C, D is a set of frequencies.
  7. G) is a dimmer and the SWR calibrate. To use the dimmer push the dim button in a rapid motion. To use the SWR calibrate side press and hold the dim/calibrate button and using the SWR knob on the right side of the radio (L).
  8. H) SWR/, S/RF - If this button is in the out position then your meter will swing as usual. Push the button in to measure SWR.
  9. I) is the volume and squelch. Volume is what is adjusted to how loud you want your speaker. Squelch you adjust to take out the unnecessary white noise.
  10. J) Mic Gain and RF gain - Mic Gain is how much gain you want to your mic. RF gain is how much of the receive you want to pick up.
  11. K) Is the fine and course adjustment that you clarify your frequencies with.
  12. L) You adjust the echo and the SWR with.
  13. M) is the channel selector.

No modulation when transmitting

No modulation could be a problem with your mic or the factory setting inside the radio. Radios are set at about 50 to 80% modulation from the factory. This is adjustable in most radios. Search mod adjustment on XXX radio and you should get info as to where the mod adjustment is located inside your radio. Turning it all the way up will not hurt it but it could cause some distortion if turned too high. Up is turning it counter clockwise.
Modulation is not shown on all built in "S" meters, just power. There are bench meters which show both power and modulation available for about $50 and up.

My e-brake failed inspection...mechanic looked at it and said the springs or shoes sound broken what is the cost of replacing shoes and springs and adjusting the e- brake im in dallas does anybody know a...

Hi!!

New shes and hardware kit for your vehicle cost about $40 (18 for shoes and 20 for kit) at PepBoys or AutoZone, turning drums is less than $20 at PepBoys. Labor is about $80. So you are looking at about $140 all toghether. Brake adjustment is part of installation,

I am in So. Cal. so I don't know a brake shop there, but if you have a PepBoys store near, it will be my pick.

JL 13w7 & 1000/1 Settings

There is no "perfect" setting that can be placed in a manual. It's all done by ear. Your settings will vary depending on the vehicle you are in, the type of enclosure you have, the type of music you listen too, how much voltage your deck put's out. There are many variables, but I can try to give you a basic guide.

First of all you need to know your enclosure. If you have a ported enclosure tuned in the mid to low 30's you may want to set the low pass to around 70-80 hz with your sub sonic set at 30 hz. this will give you the higher bass frequency you need for the loud bass you want, and protect the sub from going too far below the tuned frequency of the enclosure, and losing it's composure.

As far as the gain, and bass boost are concerned, you just have to adjust them by ear. First adjust the radio volume to normal listening levels, by that I mean as loud as it can go without the speakers in the car sounding like ****. Now you adjust the gain first. slow turn the gain control, carefuly watching and listening to the sub.. Adjust the gain to the point of the woofer getting a lil sloppy then back it down a bit until the sound is clean again. Now do the same with the bass boost. if there is a bass boost frequency adjustment, set that as close to the tuned frequency of the box as you can.

If you are in a sealed box the adjustments are a bit easier, and are all about taste. Adjust the radio as described before, and put on your favorite song. Next start udjust thing lowpass frequency to taste, not too high tho, try not us higher than 100 hz in your sub's for better sound. Sub sonic is not quite as important in a sealed box, as there is much less danger of the sub losing control.

Well good luck, and hope this helps!

Reparing 29 LTD

Depending on what you mean by "off frequency". The 29LTD, like all other 40-ch radios is PLL controlled, referenced to a 10.240 Mhz crystal. The channels are all mathematically synthesized by a higher frequency VCO and the PLL controller chip. If the PLL detects the frequency is not "locked on" it shuts down transmission. If the frequencies are there, but "out of band" then I suspect that there has been modifications done to the radio to make it so. If you want the radio back to stock, undo the mods. If the radio is out of band, and no mods present, then there is a problem with the PLL. Sometimes that may stem from someone getting into the radio and "tightening all the screws". (the shops just LOVE those!)
If the channels are in band but seem a little off, there is some adjustment in the form of a small trimmer capacitor near the crystal. But to adjust it properly, you should employ a frequency counter.

Pioneer GEX-FM903XM, system works great, however it often drops out and has just static. The signal indicator is strong. I think there is a bad connection into the radio. Where should I start...

It may be possible that the FM frequency chosen during setup, is in use in your area by a strong signal from a local station. Change to another frequency and see if the situation improves.

The following is from the Operation's Manual:

FM Modulator Setting
You can adjust FM Modulator frequency and output level.
7 Frequency
If output from the FM Modulator is hard to hear due to interference from a strong broadcast
station transmission, you can switch to another frequency.
You can adjust frequency between 87.9 and 90.1MHz.
7 Level
If the output sound is too quiet, too loud or distorted, you can adjust FM Modulator output
level.
You can adjust level between “LEVEL–1” and “LEVEL–7”.
1. Press the POWER button for 2 seconds to enter the FM Modulator Setting
mode.

2. Select the desired frequency
with the left/right arrow buttons.

3. Increase or decrease the Level
with the up/down arrows (buttons).

4. To cancel the FM Modulator Setting mode, press the POWER button again
for 2 seconds.
Note:
• After entering the FM Modulator Setting mode, if you do not perform an operation within about 8 seconds, the FM Modulator Setting is automatically canceled.

Enclosure type

Sealed box and somewhat large if they are 12's I usually try to get 3 cubic feet overall internal dimensions and generally the inside dimensions will be 13" tall 32" wide and 13"-14" inches deep. with no divider and make sure the box is sealed. Personally I like to phase the speakers backwards. Gives the bass a little more rumble.
