Hello Cynthia! Most likely the little "flap" inside the door of the dispenser is not closing all the way. My advice is to take all your ice out of the inside of the freezer. Clean and dry out that area as good as you can. Take your hand, and from the bottom, reach up and feel the flap that should close all the way when ice or water is dispensed. Take warm water, pour it from the top, you won't need much, and dry off the little flap as good as can be.
Now, press the ice button, and when you let go, you should hear a clunk or deep sounding slap, that is from the flap closing properly. Same goes for the water. However some manufacturers don't open the flap for water. From this point forward, assuming you heard the flap close, be sure it makes that same noise every single time you use the ice dispenser, or the water dispenser, and your problem should be solved.

SOURCE: icemaker not making ice

First thing to check is to see if the optics are working properly. This is the red flashing light on right hand side of freezer wall. Close the flipper door, be sure not to block the beam, and the light should go to solid red. If it does then the optics are ok. If it continues to blink then that is your problem. If optics check ok then pull ice maker out and remove the white plastic cover. It just pulls off. Look at the center of the gear wheel and see if one of the plastic tabs is either broken or if they are sort of twisted and touching eachother. If any of these things with the gear have happened then that module will need to be replaced along with the ice maker thermostat. If your not sure how to replace these parts then just replace the whole ice maker. That is much easier and not much more costly.
After changing the parts or the ice maker out follow these steps to start the ice maker thru a cycle. 1. Remove the ice maker from the cradle but leave the harness connected. Remove the front cover from the module. Unplug the refrigerator. Get a small jumper wire with bare ends and jump T and H on the module, leave the jumper in and set the ice maker on the shelf. Close the door. Now plug the refer back in and wait 30 seconds. Open the door and the ice-maker should be cycling. Remove the jumper, put the module cover back on and set it back in the cradle. The fill should take place when the ejector blades reach the 12:00 position. Follow these steps exactly in order

SOURCE: ice maker does not work

I had the same problem and even called a technician only to be told they would come out for $70.00.

I got a tip and learned that nothing was ever wrong with the icemaker. What you must do is turn the temperature up to the maximum for a period of at least 8 hours. Especially after changing the water filter or unplugging, power failure, etc. Once the icemaker is producing you can then lower your temperature gauge.

SOURCE: ice maker not working ; water dispenser ok

The reason could be several different possibilities. the water control valve for the ice maker no longer works or one of the many components inside the ice maker is needing replace or adjusted. Go to link below and enter model ED5VHGXM into model search. Click on photo #12 ice maker and you get a breakdown of of all the parts. Let me know, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: Icemaker/water dispenser not working.

Just had to defrost the water tank inside the fridge for a few minutes. Using a waterproof heating pad with extension cord did the trick. Even a fridge needs a warm blanket from time to time.

SOURCE: My icemaker is not making

Ice maker stopped making ice. For this problem you have check few things. First thing, is the water filling in the ice maker chamber and then ice maker not making ice? Or, the water is not filling in the ice maker chamber so it's not making ice. If the water is not filling in the ice maker chamber then it's clear that ice is not getting made due to no water in the chamber. For no water filling, the problem is either water supply valve turned off so water is not filling. Turn on the water supply and it will fill. But if the water supply is turned on then the other possibility is ice blockage in the water fill tube. There is a tube from which the water runs and enters the ice maker chamber. If this tube is blocked then water will not enter the chamber. The tube needs to be defrosted, by using hair dryer. This procedure melts the ice collected in the tube and water starts running again. But if water fill tube is completely clear and no ice blockage or any other blockage. Then other possibility is water valve at the back of ice maker unit. This water valve is for letting the water in the ice maker. The water valve open only for 7 seconds and in this time the water fills in the ice maker chamber and then water valve closes and the same procedure runs again in the next water filling cycle.------- In most of the cases the fault is water valve at the back of ice maker section, on some refrigerators the valve is at the lower section. ------------- The above possibilities which I gave you is water not filling in ice-maker chamber so it's not making ice. But now consider that water is filling in ice maker chamber but it's still not making ice. Then the problem is ice maker unit itself. This unit is controlled by main board. But in most cases if water is filling the ice maker but it's not making ice then its faulty ice maker unit. So see if the problem is water not entering the ice maker then the water fill tube is frosted by ice or the water valve at the back of ice maker is faulty. Replace the valve. ------------

You can get required parts from sears part direct online site or from repairclinic.com site.

This will help. Thanks. Helpmech.

Fix icemaker

Start at the water valve at back of unit and work your way to the ice maker. Make sure the hose at the back of the frig isn't block. Also that the arm on the maker is down and in the on position. If all this checks, then go back to the solenoid that turns the water on and off to the ice marker.

Where do I find the ice maker inlet water valve or solenoid? The valve on the back of my fridge has only one hose going to both the water dispenser and ice maker and the water dispenser works fine.

Since there is water that flows to the water dispenser, the water valve is working. Now, there's a spout that water flows from to the icemaker tray. Look for it. It's located on the back wall inside the freezer and maybe behind the icemaker tray. Check and see if it's frozen. If so, defrost your freezer by turning the temperature gauge to off position. Wait a while until it's defrosted, then turn it back on.
Next, make sure that the metal wire is in down position.

If that doesn't work, your icemaker maybe defective and needs replacement.

Ice maker stopped dispensing

Refrigerator - Icemaker Not Dispensing,or Not Making Ice Check that the feeler arm on the icemaker is in the down position and is not blocked. If the icemaker does not have a feeler arm make sure the icemaker paddle is not blocked under the icemaker. For more information on the causes of new icemakers not making ice. For more information on normal ice production. Side by Side models: The filter may be loaded with sediment that can cause low water pressure. The water pressure must be between 40 and 120 psi. Pressures below 40 psi may cause a malfunction of the icemaker (i.e. producing hollow cubes or no ice production). Test the water pressure: Dispense water from the dispenser into a large measuring cup for 20 seconds. If the measuring cup contains less than 13.5 ounces (400 metric centimeters), the water flow is inadequate. If the amount of water is less than 13.5 ounces then the refrigerator fails the test, remove the filter and test the refrigerator again with the by-pass plug in place. If the refrigerator dispenses the proper amount of water with the by-pass plug in place, then the filter should be replaced. If you no longer have the by-pass plug and it has been over three months since the filter has been replaced, you should replace the filter. If the refrigerator fails the test again and you know you have the proper water pressure in your home, you should call service to check the refrigerator. If the amount of water collected is over 13.5 ounces then the refrigerator passes the test and the dispenser is working correctly. Ice not Dispensing Due To Clumping Ice: Your dispenser may not be dispensing due to clumping ice cubes. The ice cubes in your icemaker may be clumping for a couple of reasons: Low food load: The defrost cycle radiates heat into the freezer. The ice in the freezer will naturally absorb the heat. This will cause the ice to melt slightly during defrost, then eventually freeze together in clumps. Increasing the food load in the freezer will buffer the warmth from the defrost cycle and keeps the ice from melting. Lack of use: When the ice bin is full, the pressure from the weight of the cubes can cause the bottom cubes to fuse and clump. To prevent this from happening, discard the clumped ice and check the bin periodically to ensure the ice is not building up. If you do not use a large amount of ice, move the feeler arm on the icemaker to the up position to turn off the icemaker and stop ice production. For more information on the causes of clumping cubes. If the ice bucket is not seated correctly, ice will not dispense properly. Make sure the ice bucket is in the correct position. Refer to Use & Care manual.

My icemaker has stopped receiving water

it sounds like your water valve is bad. you have a double water valve - one side operates the ice maker and the other side operates the water dispenser. the ice maker side of the valve is bad.

you can manually pour a little water in the ice maker ice mold and wait an hour or so - if it dumps the ice then you know for sure that the ice maker is cycling and water is not getting to the ice maker from the water valved

Water dispenser does not work, ice maker does work. This is a used Whirlpool side by side. I hooked up the water yesterday and the water dispenser worked. Overnight, something went awry and I do not get...

Icemaker is in line with the water and runs from the icemaker threw the door and up to the water valve. So that is why the ice maker is working and the water is not working, most likely the water has frozen inside, And this can be caused by many different reasons, if it has been humid or the door was left open then shut it would cause the moisture in the air to be drawn to the warm water and flash frosted the pipe, try to see if you can defrost the line with a hair dryer. If that does not work post here and I will tell you the next step to try.

Ice maker not working

Hello.

First of all you need make sure that your freezer is freezing enough. Sometimes everything will seem to be freezing ok, but it won’t be cold enough to make the icemaker work. The best way is to squeeze your ice cream, if you have any that is.

Then you need to make sure that the ice level sensing arm is in the down/on position.
Also make sure that the ice bucket is positioned properly so as to trigger the ice bucket sensing switch.

If all of this checks out ok, let me know and I can guide you through an icemaker diagnosis by forcing it into a harvest mode.
