Grasp the yellow dial and pull towards you and make user it's seated in the gear that turns it. (same as resetting the time). If that doesn't do it, it may have a bad timer motor.

I bought a new intermatic t104p3 and it wouldn't turn on automatically

You have to have the On and Off "trippers" firmly installed against the yellow timer dial and the thumb screws on them must be tight. Turn the time dial by hand to be sure it trips the lever back and forth. If that part if working OK then you will need someone to come and make sure the load (device you're controlling) is connected to it properly and of course the timer is indeed running and appears to be keeping the correct time. You can check that a half hour after setting it to the current time.

What position is lever on intermatic pool timer t104p3 for timer to work?

Lever automatically moves back and forth as trippers pass.
Move lever to ON position, move to the right.
If timer dial is not rotating, then check wiring, or replace clock motor:
If timer worked before and stopped working, but dial still rotates, the trippers are worn down, replace trippers:

My Intermatic T104P3 timer will not turn the pump on. The manual switch works and it does turn off, as set.

1) Manual switch is working, and that says electricity, circuit breaker, wiring, and pump are good.
If timer dial is rotating and keeping good time, then order new 156T1978A trippers.
If dial is not rotating, then order 240Volt WG1573 clock motor.

My Intermatic T104P3 produces a very low whirring sound - constantly when power is on. Is this a problem? It is working quite well.

Sound is coming from 3 watt clock motor located on back of timer mechanism.
It is not a problem unless clock motor is running slow.
You can turn power off, remove mechanism from enclosure using thumb spring located top inside box. Spray WD-40 on clock gears and see if sound stops.
WD40 vapor is highly flammable accelerant so don't spray on hot surface or live electric connections.
WG1573 clock motor can be purchased separately.

I have a T104P3 timer for my pool pump. It has already been replaced once by the pool installers. However, they are not helping me again with my problem. The time is set correctly as well as the turn on...

Sounds like the ON tripper is worn down.
Check that dial is rotating correctly each 24-hours. If not then wiring might be wrong.

Thank you for including model number so answer can be accurate as possible.

T104P3 timer works with manual override so timer is basically sound.
Clock dial rotates and keeps good time, so WG1573 240Volt clock motor is good.
Trippers do not click on-off lever, so trippers are suspect.
Trippers are made to wear down so that timer mechanism lasts years longer.

Have a t104p3 timer-there are 4 connections points numbers 1-4 where do the power connections go-and where do the transformer connections go?

http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-T104-Intermatic-timer.html

The T-104 240V timer should have 5 terminals
A 1 2 3 4
Hot leads from breaker box connect to terminals 1 and 3
Leads to Load connect to 2 and 4

If the manual override works, but the timer does not, then your Breaker-box-wires and Load-wires are reversed.

I moved the time pinter by accident. now the timer

Did you mix up the pointers? One of them is for off and one for on. Dont know any other reason. If the timer is working all the pointers do is manually trip the lever as it comes past. On and Off should be stamped on the pointer.
