Depending of the menus you are in you may do one o the following:

1) start typing the name of your contact and as you type it keeps filtering out your contacts and shows does that are relevant base on your search characters.
2) start typing the phone number and in this case too it will filter out the phone numbers based on your search input

My typewriter is not typing letters or numbers, somehow it is typing characters that I do not recognize. I am told it has something to do with the ps on the left side.

The slide switch on the L. reads 15, 12, 10 and PS it should be in 10 or 12 if it is then slide it up and down a few times while pushing down on it. They fet dirty.

Hi

Usually illegal characters are symbols, punctuation marks, question and exclamation marks, dots, tildes, etc.

Make sure you are only typing a to z characters without ? and 0 to 9 numbers.

I put a request for help and got an answer, but now I want to send more details to keep trying to find a solution, but every time I want to send there is a message saying "Please use only legal...

Legal characters are generally the letters A-Z and numbers 0-9, as well as a few general symbols such as , . / etc.

******* characters are such things as different fonts that cant be displayed or hidden characters. This can happen if you are cutting and pasting from a different source, it may be importing ******* characters that you cant see, but are part of the paste. Try deleting the whole input are and typing your answer with no cut and paste.
