The 15/16 nut that holds the blade on is locked tight.

The nut holding the blade on my MTD riding tractor is so tight I can't even budge it. Anyone have any tricks or tips ? Yes, I am using a 15/16 socket and rachet. Yes, I am securing the blade with a screw driver placed through the hole, to keep the blade from rotating. Hell, I even put some WD40 on it. Anyone ?

Had the same problem with my mower. Find a length of metal pipe that will fit over the handle of your socket wrench and it will give you more torque. The nut on mine would not even budge with a 12" extension bar, but when I put a 3ft steel pipe over the bar, it popped loose with very little effort. I also used a wood block to hold the blade tight

If you can get hold of a compressor & rattle gun, this will do the trick.

LT2000 craftman mower bolt and nut that tightens blades keep coming loose

Get some red lock tight and put it on the spindle shaft threads. Sounds like the threads are worn down and just won't hold the spindle nut tight any longer.

Blade will not lift..

Make sure that all the pivot points are greased or oiled sufficiently and not rusted. Also make sure that the pivot points are not to tight and binding. If so loosen a little they should have cup washers on them or nuts with plastic inside them so they will hold the joint but not fall off. Good Luck...

With the blade on and tight, block the blade with a piece of wood or someother means of securing it so it will not turn when you try to remove the nut. I then use a fifteen inch breaker bar and "massage" the bar with a four pound sledge hammer. A few moderate taps and it starts to loosen.

I hope this helps you get it off.

You can use the belt to hold the pulley from turning
( you ARE going to replace the belt aren't you?)

Simply use locking pliers (vise grip) to clamp the belt sides together close to the pulley. Then wra the other other end of the loop around something convenient to keep the pulley from turning. Guaranteed to hold the ******.

I have an older mtd yard machine that throws the belt whenever the engine is started. It appears that the belt is very tight the blades turn free when the belt is not connected so they are not locked up....

I had an MTD riding mower, when the mower started the belt should not have been engaging the blade spindle. They're is a clutch lever which goes down to a simple spring tensioner which engages the blade. You may have the tensioner misaligned which will allow the belt to be desheaved. My old manual told me to hold a straight edge along the engine pulley and the driven pulley, like on a table saw. There should be some deflection in the belt, 1/2" over two feet.
