The hook drive gear is seized and requires lubricant ,this is the gear right behind your bobbin case I believe you can access it from the rear ,I hope this helps

SOURCE: How do you adjust the bobbin tension on a Singer

With your slide plate open, you will see 2 screws on the bobbin case. You need to adjust the one on the inside (not the one that sits at the edge of the metal strip). Do so very slightly. If you can't seem to get it adjusted, take a look and make sure there isn't any thread or lint in between the two pieces of metal that the thread feeds through. This can cause a loose tension.

Take the thread completly off the machine and rethread it making sure it goes thru the tension wheel properly.
FYI Loops on the bottom-- Problem is in the threadding.. Loops on the top, problem is with the bobbin.

The thread jams in the hook area. I've removed it according to the manual and it still jams.

change the needle
clean under the needle plate where the feed dogs are for lint
clean the bobbin are for lint or loose threads
check the thread tension-usually 3 or 4 is good
rethread the machine top thread & bobbin
some machines jam when the thread come off the thread take up lever--I have to watch my mechanical sewing machine for that problem

Sewing machine tension

Hi. The upper tension is too loose (even tho it looks ok). If the upper thread is too loose, it can't pull the bobbin thread up to properly form the stitch and you get those messy 'birds nest' on the bottom side of the fabric. I posted a Tip on Adjusting Tension--read that and adjust your upper tension.

Thanks!

Seat the bobbin & adjust tension on Singer 9018

basic tension instructions apply...bottom tension should be moderate, thread should pass when holding thread and dangle the case. Top tension should pull bottom thread JUST to the top side of fabric. thread bobbin case counter clockwise.

Just bought s Singer 1725. Tried a straight stitch. The thread keeps bunching up under the fabric and around the bobbin shuttle. How can this be corrected?

"Birdnesting" occurs when there is no tension on the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. This is easily corrected by rethreading the machine, following the threading path carefully and making sure the thread is fully engaged in the tension mechanism.

Looping of stitching on the reverse of the material.

put the tension to about 4 and make sure it is threaded in a N shape and remember the thread catcher above the needle from the bobbin to left down round tension up to arm down the side.
