SOURCE: Describe your Black & Decker Hedge Hog

You may have a piece of metal between the moving blade and the stationary one. Also the motor may have been at the top of the stroke when it stopped. You may be able to "force" the blade to move a little. This may free it enough to work.

SOURCE: I have a 22inch Craftsman Hedge Trimmer, Model No.

The likely issue is the gear pin has been sheared. The part is no longer available from Craftsman. (P/N from sears: 616255-001)

I had a similar issue with a similar electric trimmer. I removed the old pin and used a split pin and ground it down to the proper size. It's now worked for about 2 years just fine. This requires complete dis-assembly.

I had a similar problem, with a headg trimmer, it was working fine, just stoped. It did not get stuck, or caught up in anything, on dismantiling, as you say, motor running, no drive.
It was get a new one, or bust, so I put a small tack of weld on gear/drive and reduced fuse rating to 8 amps, (from 13 A) incase I got it jamed, its fine now.
I never could figure how the drive got from a gear to the oscillating leaver, must have been a clutch somwhere inside, anyway, weld sorted that out....

Hit fence with blade and now it wont move

Without direct exposure to this model, check the parts catalog, there is more than likely some type of coupler between the engine and blade assembly. Usually they are added for exactly this situation. Worse case senerio, the gearbox for the blades is "toast".

Blade is slightly closer to fence in back causing the material to kick back.

Hi Ken,
Sounds like you need to to adjust your fence.I use the blade from a combination square.Place the steel blade next to the saw blade(between the carbide teeth).Next loosen the fence lock, loosen the two hex bolts on the rear pinion assembly so that the fence can move side to side.Move the fence up to the combo blade and adjust the fence and lock the fence lock.Check for blade and fence for true.Tighten the hex bolts at the rear pinion bearing assembly. Thank You for choosing FixYa.com.

My fence is square to the table. How do I set the blade so it is square to the table? There is a 1\8" difference in the distance between the front and back of the blade in relation to the groove the miter...

I'm betting that the table isn't square to the blade. My Cabinet Makers Table Saw does the same thing - the top plate (the big heavy cast iron plate that weighs about 50 pounds) sits on top of the sheet metal box that houses the motor and motor lift. This cast iron plate is held onto the sheet metal box by 3 screws (usually).

Loosen the 3 screws and the cast iron plate can move around on top of the sheet metal box (the holes for the screws are large enough to allow 1/8 inch movement). Looking down from the top, you can rotate the cast iron plate clockwise and it will move the front of the blade closer to the fence and the back of the blade away from the fence. Counter-clockwise does the opposite.

For the best adjustment, use a dial indicator mounted to something that slides in the track of the table top. Position the dial indicator agains the blade and slide it back and forth in the track of the table top. This will accurately set the table top to the blad (so they are parallel within 0.0005 inches).

Then check the accuracy of your fence (sounds like this is good). Don't forget to check the alignment of your riving knife/guard & splitter to the blade (if it's off you can't feed wood because it will hit the splitter).

Blade Alignment?

ok yep your blade is out of alignment with the fence. It is closer to the fence at the rear than the front. You need to make the modification or adjustment to your fence, if it allows that, and then worry about the miter slots later (which should be adjusted miter slot to blade, not miter slot to fence). You might be able to adjust the miter slot to blade by moving the actual table and then securing witht he table mount bolts. Check your manual for how to align the fence.

You do want to fix that though as it can be potentially dangerous and result in kickback of the workpiece which is a rather SCARY thing, and very dangerous.

Cam does not engage blade

I had this problem with mine. I ended up disassembling the two halves of the trimmer, then reseating the cam. The cam was jammed when I caught the blades on a chain link fence. Good luck and patience.

Blade Alignment?

By splitter I take it you mean fence. If this is correct there could be a couple things that I would look for. UNPLUG saw and check the blade at 0 for being inline, make sure flanges are on correctly and finally what I would look at is the adjustable table bringing the fence toward the blade. Loosen lever and move it to the first slot where the guide would go align the front of fence and lock lever then check the back of the fence to make sure it is straight. If not you would have to adjust the back rail to align it. What I made to do this is 2 of the rails from the guide slide into the slot and on the back of the saw are 2 10MM bolts that need to be loosened and the rear slide moved one way or the other after loosening the lever push the fence tight to whatever you use as a guide and snug the bolts move the fence away and then bring back rechecking alignment sometimes you might have to try a couple times but it should work. Tighten the bolts and again recheck If not let me know and I will find a manual for you to download
