Question about Emerson Microwave Ovens

My mother just bought an Emerson MW8119 Microwave and can't figure out how to only set say 15 seconds cook time. Is it possible?

    Thanks for the link.

I downloaded the manual and it seems that pages 9 and 10 are only partially there. The whole description on one stage cooking seems to be only somewhat there. She tells me that as soon as she presses the first number (like you would do to enter the time) it starts up. Like if she wanted to put in 15 seconds as soon as she presses the one something starts up. It is new so maybe it is not completely functional.

Hi! I just purchased the same microwave, and came online to find the solution. I was then able to find the correct answer to this problem. On this model, Emerson does not put a "time cook" button for odd cook times such as 15 seconds. Instead, they have you push the "Power Button" prior to setting the cook time.

If you want to cook on full power, press the power button once, and then enter your cooking time and press start. If you want to cook on 50% power or 30% power or something like that, push the "Power Button" several times until the appropriate power level is displayed, then enter the cook time and press start.

The reason that it starts up right away when *********** pushes the 1 button is because Emerson has the quick cooking feature for 1 minute through 6 minutes. You only have to push the number once to get the 1 minute cook time or anywhere through 6 minutes respectively.

Hope this helps!

Here's a link to the PDF version for that microwave model.
http://www.emersonradio.com/owners/MWO%20manual/MW8119SB%20Owner's%20Manual.pdf

Here's a link to all sorts of Emerson Product manuals:
http://www.emersonradio.com/owners/MWO%20manual/

I see on the lower part of page 10 that the instruction for "One Stage" cooking only requires that you enter the minutes and seconds for cooking time and press Start.

I'd suspect it's similar to entering numbers on a calculator, but you get two digits for minutes, then two digits for seconds.

The default power level is always maximum.

I see, yes the manual provided is incomplete.

It sounds like a "Reheat Serving" or some fancy option is running.

Be shure to hit the "Reset" button a bunch of times then just press 1 then 5 it should fill the display from left to right with 00:15 ; then press "Start"

If the microwave starts before you press start, then something is not right.

I know with my microwave, if I hit the "Reheat serving", it only expects a single digit for the number of servings, and it calculates how many minutes, seconds and power rating will be necessary and begins right away.

This sounds like what your mothers Microwave is doing.

All I can suggest is to avoid pressing any options before entering numbers for the time.

    Cheers,

    Richard

How to make rice

Cover with the lid and turn the heat down to its lowest setting. Leave it alone - once the lid is on, set the timer and go away! If you lift the lid and let the steam out you can slow down the cooking process, and rice should always be cooked as briefly as possible. Give white rice 15 minutes and brown rice 40 and use a timer - overcooking is what spoils rice. The best way to test if it is cooked is simply to bite a grain. Another way is to tilt the pan and, if liquid collects at the edge, it will need a couple more minutes' cooking.

Microwave stops after 59 seconds

Check that a "favourite" setting has not been selected. The unit may think that is the time that you want to cook. Im not sure about your model but see if there is any clear or cancel buttons to clear any pre programmed selections. If not, unplug the machine for 15 minutes to reset the controller and try it again.

New microwave stopped working after 15 seconds

Possibly the fuse / breaker is tripped, usually all outlets in one room share same breaker. Check breakers (or fuses) or try outlet in differnt room. If the outlet has power, (plugin a lamp to check) and the microwave still does not work, take it back to store for replacement or refund.

I have never used the power feature and now I need to and cant find manual. How does the power feature work. I need to operate the microwave on medium power for one minute.

1 Use the number buttons to set a cooking
time. You can set a time from one second to
99 minutes, 99 seconds. To set a time over
one minute, enter the seconds too. For
example, to set 20 minutes, enter 2, 0, 0, 0 .
2 If you want to set the power level to
something other than High, press the Power
Level button, then use the number buttons
to enter a power level.
Power Levels:
Level Cooking PL
1Warm10
2Low20
3 Defrost 30
4Medium Low40
5Medium50
6 Simmer 60
7 Medium High 70
8 Reheat 80
9 Saute 90
10 High Hi

Hope that helps.

I believe the dial on Hobart microwaves allows you to manually enter any amount of time by spinning the dial for the desired time, and programmable buttons to save the time settings. HL1600 is 1.5 cubic foot, 44 liters

I have Emerson Microwave #mw8999sv which has the Express Cook option- cooking 1 - 6 minutes. How do I cook for 1 minute 30 seconds, etc.? Thank you.

The owner's manual is here. On page 10 we find:

1. Press the POWER button; the Microwave and High
Cook indicators will light and “PL 10” will light in the
display.
2. Press the POWER button different times to set the
desired power; the display will show the percentage
you chose. If selecting power level 70%-10%, the
Low Cook indicator will light instead of the High
Cook indicator.
3. Press number keys to set the desired cooking time.
OPERATION(CONTINUED)
4. Press the START/+30SEC. button to start cooking;
the Microwave and one of the Cook indicators will
blink and the display will countdown the remaining
cooking time in minutes and seconds. It will beep
five times when cooking is completed.

Microwave caught on fire.

I agree! That is an extreme hazard. Possibly due to over voltage of the power supply or faulty relay systems. Emerson is usually a cheaper brand anyhow. I would get the money back instead of exchange.

First you need to let someone know what brand your microwave is!
OK! Go to the proper brand name microwave on your computer and look for instructions.
That should put you in the right direction.

Trouble shoot microwave

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a minute, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Also, are any other of your electrical items (light bulbs, DVDs, etc.) failing lately? This could indicate improper power line voltage.

Let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.
