Yamaha purple screen rx-v373

I had this same issue. I think I finally resolved the issue by turning off HDMI Control (HDMI-CEC) on my Blu-Ray player. I had the Blu-Ray player plugged into a Yamaha RX-V375 (almost an identical receiver). I think the source of the issue was that my TV does not not support HDMI-CEC. Turning off HDMI-CEC on the Blu-Ray player fixed the issue. The Yamaha receiver already had HDMI Control disabled, and all the other HDMI devices appeared to have HDMI-CEC disabled or not supported.

In my case, the symptoms of the issue were that I would see the correct picture for a second on power up, then the picture would go away. For the Blu-Ray HDMI input selected on the receiver, I would see a solid purple screen and a blank screen for the rest of the inputs. Sometimes switching inputs fixed the issue, sometimes power cycling would fix it, but it was getting very annoying.

When your notebook computer is connected to an HDMI device, you may encounter certain display and sound issues. For example, if you have your notebook computer connected to an LCD TV and/or surround sound speakers with a high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) cable as part of a home theater system, you may encounter some common HDMI display and/or sound issues such as the following: If you are experiencing one of the following issues, click the link to go directly to a section of this document for a resolution. I continue to have to switch my HDMI cable between 2 ports on my TV because initally there is "no signal". But when I switch ports I get a signal. So is this a HDMI cable issue, port issue or my Insignia...

My best bet would be a port issue - see if another device will work plugged into that port. (Some HDTVs have a HDMI port strictly for Service and nothing else but a Technicians specified cable will work in this port, look at the Manual) Check to see if your TV is set to the same port as your connecting to. One will be HDMI 1, next HDMI 2 and so on, the input button on remote should switch from port to port, make sure port setting on TV is same as #port your connected to.

HTMI errors on the following devices DVD Blue-ray HDMI connected; CD Not HDMI connected; VCR Not HDMI connected; satellite works OK HDMI to Yamaha - HDMI to TV NO HDMI error displayed; GUI does not display...

You have to use Component Video on this unit. HDMI will not "Handshake" and pass thru. This was HDMI's first version "1.1a" and there is no fix. Use your receiver to switch audio via Coaxial or optical then use HDMI directly from BLURAY etc to your TV. The downside to this is how many HDMI inputs your TV has. It's an awesome receiver! Don't blame Yamaha!!! This issue is directly attributable to "HDMI" and their race to shelves before truly field testing the product. The current version of HDMI is 1.3b and soon to be 1.4 which includes ethernet capabilities.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news! If you would like an "in depth" look into the world of HDMI issues, Google HDMI problems or HDMI forums, and you can read for hours. Hope this helps

I have a Onkyo TX-SR806 HDMI output does not work anymore. Tried switching HDMI cables. My component video output works.

Sounds like you may have a bad HDMI card my friend. I had an issue with my HDMI card that was causing blue dots to appear on the dark parts of the screen, when outputting 1080p over HDMI. This is a rather common issue, so it wouldn't surprise me if your HDMI board needs replacement - especially if you've ever experienced the infamous blue dot issue.

Denon AVR-2307CI HDMI won't always connect

In short, HDMI will not work. HDMI is riddled with issues, your's is just one of many! HDMI version 1.1,1.2,1.2a,&1.2b do not work 100% on any receiver. The current version is 1.3b and "so far" it works... Now the bad news; It's not just a software patch to fix the problem, it's a hardware issue as well. If your unit is still under warranty, the manufacturer will update hardware and software for you at N/C. If it's out of warranty, it's way too expensive to have done! The fix is to run your HDMI directly to your TV from source, ie. Cable,DVD, etc. then run coaxial digital or optical to your receiver for audio. The catch.. How many HDMI inputs your TV has will limit sources hooked up via HDMI. If you want further info on HDMI issues, just google "HDMI forums" and there are many different sites to answer the problems of HDMI. Hope this helps.
