Hi! Is your friend still a member of FB or he/she deleted the account? You must veify it following these steps: 1. Go to your page, the one where you change your profile picture, update your status, etc. 2. Look for Friends just under your cover photo. 3. Press over Friends. If he/she is listed there, press over their name and you can see if their account is still active. If not, that's the reason you lost communication with he/she. Please, let me know if this was usefull for you. Thanks.

How do I delete an old FB account that is obsolete with old profile data? I do not have access to old email address or password used to establish this FB account.

Here's what Facebook says about deleting it.

How do I permanently delete my account?
If you don't think you'll use Facebook again, you can request to have your account permanently deleted. Please keep in mind that you won't be able to reactivate your account or retrieve anything you've added. Before you do this, you may want to download a copy of your info from Facebook. Then, if you'd like your account permanently deleted with no option for recovery, log into your account and let us know.
When you delete your account, people won't be able to see it on Facebook. It may take up to 90 days to delete all of the things you've posted, like your photos, status updates or other data stored in backup systems. While we are deleting this information, it is inaccessible to other people using Facebook.
Some of the things you do on Facebook aren't stored in your account. For example, a friend may still have messages from you even after you delete your account. That information remains after you delete your account.

To get to this on Facebook, log-in, then go to your settings, at the top right corner, click on the little arrow for the drop down menu, then choose "Settings", click on "Support Dashboard" along the left side, click on "Help Center", scroll down (along the left side) to "manage your account", finally go to the Deactivating and deleting account link and click on the underlined phrase "let us know" at the end of the 1st paragraph and where you can actually click to have it deleted.

HOW DO I DELET MY FB ACCOUNT

How do I permanently delete my account? If you deactivate your account, your profile disappears from the Facebook service immediately. People on Facebook won't be able to search for you, though some info, like messages you sent, may still be visible to others. We also save your profile information (ex: friends, photos, interests) in case you want to come back.
If you can't log into your account, you'll need to reset your password first. To do this, go to www.facebook.com and click the Forgot your password? link below Password. Once you've followed the instructions to reset your password and can log into your account, you can deactivate or delete your account using the steps above.

Why has facebook made me change my password and start a new account , wiping all my friends , games etc ?

That is very strange. Your account may have been hacked though, which is why they say to change all passwords regularly. I would contact them about this, it sounds like someone may have pfished you or something as well.
