SOURCE: Sharp Carousel Microwave door latch stopped working door won't stay closed

Normally the problem is not the spring, but a broken spring mounting tab on the door latch head (hook) assembly or the inner door panel.

If it's the door panel, it's usually easier and cheaper to use epoxy and some kind of hardware to fashion a new spring mount.

The door latch head (hook) is easy to replace or repair if that's the issue.

We have *critical* safety & disassembly info at our site, linked here: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

We also have this full service manual at our site: http://www.microwavedisplay.com/R1480_R1481_R1482_sm.pdf

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the screws you need to remove.

We're happy to help and we appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: Dell laptop lid latch problem

The spring and latch are available from Dell but this is a very hard repair. I do this for a living and screen repair is always a challenge. If you want to tackle it then call Dell first to get the parts. Once the parts have arrived put the laptop on a non static mat (placemats work well). Take out the battery and do not connect the AC power. If you're lucky on your screen there should be four rubber bumpers. Peal these off and there should be a screw behind each one. Now the bezel has to be unlocked from the back. You'll need a couple of plastic pry devices. I like to use plastic bike tire irons. Once the bezel is off you'll see the catch and where the sping goes. Make sure you find that old spring, you don't want it ending up in the electronics. Now just reverse everything to put it back together. You'll need to put a little rubber cement to put on those bumpers. If you're machine doesn't have the screws you'll have to use those plastic tire irons to pry apart the screen. Be careful and don't force it.

Want to bypass my lid lock on my washer. since a part is broken and my apartment maintenance guys will take 3 months to get here to even look at it for me

try jamming an old sock in the latch hole , I do remember a lady who's kid did that so he could watch the stuff go round an round inside, it kept the lid from latching , of course that was why I got a call to look at it (safety around small children and all ), so I removed the sock bits and then latch worked again

Frigidaire affinity model number FAHE1011MW wont lock lid and wont come on. Cant afford new machine how can i troubleshoot this problem

I appreciate your inquiry, Martha!

I understand that your Frigidaire washing machine will not lock the lid and will not operate. If the lid will not lock then your washing machine will not communicate to start the load. This however could be an issue with your lid strike, latch, or control panel. I would recommend checking to make sure there is no visible damage on the door strike or latch. This could also be an issue with the continuity of each component and in order to check that you would need to disassemble your washer. This is not a simple DIY job. I would recommend having a professional technician out to perform proper repairs. Having a technician out will prevent any unnecessary part purchases. I hope this information is helpful for you. -Matt

Model ftw3011kwo washing machine won't work after breaking locking lid piece

Thank you for your inquiry, David Castro!

I understand that your Frigidaire washer is not working after the lid piece became broken. If the lid piece is not latching properly inside of the door latch then your washer is not registering the door is closed and will not start. You may need to have that piece replaced I would recommend having any electrical component replaced by an authorized technician. I hope this is helpful. -Matt

Affinity frigidare front load washer won't start. It beeps with message flashing (DR)

Hello zabbster - Typically the DR or DO error code indicates that the door switch is not closed. Make sure that the door lock is completely closed. If the door is closed, make sure the door latch is not broken. If the latch is broken, you may possibly need to replace the door lock switch.

Do you notice any beeping, flashing, or error codes? You could have a bad lid switch, door latch or even a timer. A professional would need to diagnose the unit if no error code is appearing.

Frigidaire Stackable model #FEX831CSO door won't open

Unplug the machine and where the lid is latched you can push a piece of wire wire in the same hole it latches through. The wire will bottom out after in the hole about a inch. Push it slightly farther and try raising lid as your pushing. All the lock is is a metal tab that pushes up and down. After time the enclosure it's attached to splits and makes it fail but it can be opened with whatever goes farther in that hole then the latch itself.

Why is my frigidaire washer not spinning?

  1. Stopped Mid-cycle
    • If your Frigidaire washing machine started spinning, but then stopped, verify that the power cord is still connected to the outlet. See if the outlet blew by plugging in a different appliance into the outlet. See if you blew a fuse. A blown fuse usually is either black or has broken wires. Replace the fuse. If you have a circuit breaker instead of a fuse box, reset the circuit breaker if it's been tripped. Check the lid switch, which is located inside the main housing of the washing machine, near the door frame. If the switch is burned out, order a new part from a Frigidaire parts dealer.
    Pump
    • The pump's sole responsibility is to remove water during the spin cycle. If the pump isn't working properly, see if it's clogged with debris or clothing. Use needle-nose pliers to remove these items. Check the pump pulley, which is connected to the pump. This component must move freely for the pump to work. If it won't turn, purchase a new pump pulley since you can't usually fix this component.
    Lid
    • Check the door latch assembly if the door isn't closing correctly. If any of these components are broken, order a new part from a Frigidaire parts dealer. If you do not, the washer won't start spinning since it believes the door isn't closed. Your Frigidaire washing machine won't start the spin cycle until the lid or door is closed. Always close the lid, and remove any items preventing the lid from fully closing. Always close the dispenser drawer.
    Additional Concerns
    • Never over- or under-load your washing machine. Your Frigidaire washer may not enter the spin cycle if the load is too large, since this can damage the washing machine. Remove a few pieces of clothing. If the load is too small, add a few similar items to the washing machine. Check the internal belt, drive motor and motor coupling. If any of these components are broken or very worn, they may not work properly, preventing the washer from entering the spin cycle. Order replacement parts from a parts dealer. Check the tub and basket bearings, and get new ones if the current ones have broken components or are defective.
