My ds will not turn on

It sounds like one of you're screens has broken. What you have discribed is generally what happens one either the top or bottom LCD screen has broken.

If it is the top screen the bottom screen will flash for 1/2 a second and the DS turns off.

If it is the bottom screen the DS should still turn on but with no reaction from the screens. (the Ds will shut down immediatley after turning on)

(Original) Nintendo DS (Not Lite or DSi) top screen is all white

If you need the top screen replaced then i would advise sending the console to the manufactuer or to a local gamestop or eb games and see if they can fix it themself because if the top screen is damaged then it might be shorted out

Turns on and lights up but no images on top screen

The DS top screen has two components, which are the LCD display, and the backlight. If the LCD display has gone bad but the backlight still works and the connecter is seated properly, the DS will still power on and the lower screen will be normal, and the top screen will light, but it won’t display anything.

You didn’t mention if your DS is the original DS or the DS Lite. Replacement top screens for the DS Lite are cheap on eBay, but installing the screen is a bit complex. The screen for the original DS is a different part and they are more expensive and hard to find.

I’ve never worked on an original DS, so I can only tell you about installing the top screen on a DS Lite.

First, the DS Lite has to be just about completely disassembled. You have to completely remove the top and bottom cases, pull out the microphone and wi-fi cables, and release the connecter for the top screen, which is located on the main board in the lower case. You’ll need the tri-wing screwdriver. You can leave the bottom screen/touch screen assembly attached to the main board, but be careful not to pull or tear the flex cables. Check YouTube for videos on disassembling the DS Lite.

Here’s the deal breaker for most people: The speakers are soldered to the flex cable of the top screen. I’ve never seen a replacement sold with speakers. You’ll have to unsolder your speaker wires from the old screen cable and reconnect them to the new one. If you can’t solder, you could take the screens to a local tv/electronics repair shop and pay to have it done. I got this information for you from this appears to be a common problem I hope this helps

Ds Lite bottom screen flashes then shuts down

Not necessarily. When the cable to my top screen became partially torn, it prevented the DS from powering up. Instead, the green light briefly lit up and then went out and the machine stayed off. I can only presume that feedback is required from the screen. As for the bottom screen, I'm unsure of how the DS behaves when the screen or cable is damaged.

Hope this helps.

DS Powering On

Hi, if the bottom screen briefly comes on with a white screen. There is a issue with the top screen, it is either the top screen itself or if there is damage to the hinge it will more than likely be the cheaper option the ribbon cable that threads though the hinge to the top screens PCB board.

Nintendo ds to screen broken

Hi, replacing the original nds upper screen is a fairly straight forward procedure, you need to remove the 4 x small plastic plugs located in the corners of upper screen, then remove the 4 x phillips screws, the top outer back part of the case will seperate and you can gain access to the screen. Firstly remove the small screw holding down the right hand pcboard to gain access to the ribbon connectors, release the larger flat connector by hinging the clip up, slide the ribbon out, underneath you will see a tiny connector, gently ease the small clip back towards the ribbon, prising a little each side at a time, remove the ribbon and then you can prise the screen from the case.

Nintendo DS bottom display screen

Hi I have a problem with my bottom screen as well. I was replacing the case as the hinge was broken. When i was putting it back together i noticed a slight tear in the ribbon cable which is attached to the board and the bottom screen.
When I turned it on I found I had poor colour and contrast in the bottom screen however the top screen was fine.
Where this ribbon cable is attached to the board there is two small cables attached to the board beneath it, maybe one of these has come away and needs repositioning or your bottom screen needs replacing.Try this site for diy tips
