Most drill press' have cover on the top when opened expose two different sized pulleys. Speed is adjusted by changing to different combinations. The speed is usually shown inside the lid on a chart with the different combinations of pulleys. Hope this helps.

My McGraw Edison drill press is making a screaching noise, and it sounds like it is going lock up.

make sure one of your pulleys isnt rubbing on the guard housing other wise remove belt and run motor. if that sounds ok check and see if your spindle turns freely and has no play side to side if spindle shaft turns hard most likely a bearing problem could be sleeve or ball bearings will have to deassemble and inspect also if motor screams while running with belt off the motor will need new ball bearings .

The pulley does fit loose so the quill or the spindle can ride up and down on it. Just has to be snug enough to grab it and spin but loose enough to move up and down. Hop this helps.

Drill Presses problem

If adjustments are necessary, follow the this procedure: Spindle side-play can be minimized by adjusting the locknut located on the left side of the motor unit 1-1/2 inches behind the spindle and towards the bottom of the motor unit. While moving the feed handle up and down, tighten the lock nut until the play is minimized, but not so tight so as to restrict free movement of the spindle. The spindle should return by itself to the full up position. The drive belt tension may be adjusted by removing the top cover and then loosening the two nuts on either side of the motor pulley. Adjust the motor position and tighten the nuts so that moderate finger pressure against the belt causes it to deflect 3/16" to 1/4" (see Figure 6). Excessive belt tension may result in damage to the bearings. Note: Belt tension can also affect the generation of "noise" in the drill press. Although it does not affect drilling accuracy, it may be desirable to adjust the tension for minimum noise. The spindle has been generously oiled at the factory. You may have to periodically wipe off oil that makes its way down the spindle.

I need help with replacing the belt
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The belt install on a Kirby is to raise the height adjustment to the highest level and then dial the belt off counter clockwise so it is loose and not on the fan pulley, release the top lever on the bell housing, then remove the bottom plate and unhook the brushroll on one side, slide the old belt off and then slide the new one on, replace the brushroll with the screws facing the carpet and re-hook the bottom plate on the Kirby. Then take the bell housing and hook that back on to the Kirby and lock it down. Then dial the belt on clockwise all the way and the belt should be on the fan pulley. The belt should be ready to go, plug in your Kirby and then do the step down on the vacuum height adjustment until the tone changes, then try to see id it picks up, if not go one more height adjustment and that should be the correct setting.

So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
Thanks, Don the Vac Man

I don't know how to change the brush. HELP Kirby Legend II vacuums

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. To change the Kirby brushroll is to dial the belt off of the fan pulley and unlock the head to the bell housing, the head will come off. Then you turn the head over and remove the bottom plate by 2 levers the brushroll will be attached. Remove the brushroll and replace it with the new one with the screw head facing down to the carpet. Replace the bottom plate and install a new belt.
