SOURCE: Swisher 60 deck belt breaks after mowing about 15 minutes.

Even though the routing is correct, have you checked that every spindle and idler pulley turns freely? These bearings can freeze up or bind because debris builds up in them. Also, if the bushings on the idler pulleys can wear, causing them to misalign. Keep checking. Also - is the belt snapping clean, or do you see a burnt, worn spot?

Testimonial: "Thank you for your help. The belt is snapping clean. You are correct in your assessment to what the problem might be. We checked all the above and did not correct problem. We put three washers on top of small idler pulley to bring it down and better align routing. Bought heavier belt at auto parts. Believe the bolt head was touching belt where it routed throught to larger idler pulley."

2004 gx335 48c mower deck primary pto belt has broken twice new double pulley on rear nothing rubbing no noise

Is the belt overly tight? My mower was doing that to, turned out the belt called for was 1" longer then the belts i was buying for it, making the belt really tight and it kept over heating from rubbing and failing. I would run it for a while then shut everything off and see if the belt is hot, also check that the bearing are not hot, could be friction somewhere causing the belt to heat up and fail.

Craftsman mower keeps breaking primary mower belt

Have you check the tensioners? The idler pulleys that are on the arms with springs on them. My reasoning is, if the arms are rusted, or stuck for some reason and not moving freely then the springs can't pull the belt tight. If that's the case, I could see where the belt could be slipping more than it needs to and prematurely wearing out. Just something to check. Good luck.

Lgt 2654 runs fine. But when I engage the mower it pulls the engine down alot and when I start to mow it really pulls it down and it hammers. All the pulleys and idlers are free.

Sounds like the mower belt may not be routed correctly around the pulleys or may be running on the wrong side of a belt guard. Also check under the deck to make sure there are no obstructions to the turning of the blade or bent blades....you did not state where the hammering was coming from ( engine or deck ) I can only assume that it is on the deck....so these are the things I would check. Also check the tightness of the bolt on the main pulley sheave (the pulley on the bottom of the engine that drives the belt. the bolt is in the center hole of the pulley) if it is loose it can cause misalignment of the belt and juddering of the deck. If the bolt is tight, remove the belt from the engine pulley sheave and start the engine and look to see that the crankshaft is not bent causing the pulley to wobble....worst case scenario....will require new engine...hope this helps... ;-D

Blade hit the ground and bent. Now getting a growling sound from blade bearing housings and mower stalls after five minutes or so.I did replace the blades...

I have a feeling that the bearings were damaged when they hit. The new blades are ok, but the bearings are growling and I don't know what is causing the engine to shut off. I would pull the deck off, check out the bearings, replace them if needed, just wobble the blade back and forth, it shouldn't move, should be tight, Take off the belt and spin the blade by hand, and see if it growls. It could be the drive pulley bearings that went, check them out too. hope this helps.

I change the deck belt about 6 times the mower will cut the belt and the belt slip off the track, also the tension spring keep broke 3 timas.

most likely problem something is bent on the deck or a cracked support holding one of the pulleys that the belt is traveling on, if the keep is breaking the spring might be pulling the pulley out of alignment or the bearing is heating up and burning thru the belt

Mandrel chews pulley

Are you sure the spindle is not bent and also are you balancing the blades when sharpening. Other then that make sure bolts are tight on the mandrel. With the deck off and standing up spin the blades and watch center of balde to see if something is bent. Also watch pulley on the other side to see if its bent.
