Question about Panasonic ER 389 Beard Trimmer
What are the battery specifications for Panasonic ER389 trimmer and where can I buy the replacement battery??
I read "alfadogs" suggestion and found that Sanyo KR-11--AAUT is obsolete. Found that Digi-key's part # P015T-ND works great. It is a NIMH that is a a little bit larger - but fits just fine. The charge rate of the ER389 works well and does not heat this battery. John

Hi. A Google came up with the correct battery as being either 4/5 sub-c or sub-c Ni-Cd with solder tabs. The Google hit was a bit vague on that but you will beed to disassemble it anyway so disassemble and measure the size then order the correct battery. It seems to have come with NiCd but you can replace with NiMH for better performance. This is not really a "user-replaceable batery" but it is not a big deal to solder one in. Remember to tin the tabs first. With shipping expect to pay around $8-10 for the battery. Given that and the amount of work to replace you may want to consider repacing the trimmer.

I had the same problem. But, I just opened it up, ripped out the soldered Ni-Cd battery that had gone bad (after 12 years of use; so it had a good life) and replaced it with a rechargeable AA battery. Specifically, I replaced it with a 2500mAh Nickel Metal Hydride Battery with 1.2 Volts.
And, it works great!!
I have no idea what all that technical stuff means, but I had an extra rechargeable AA battery, I put it in (I didn't even solder it - just made sure the contacts touched) and everything seems to work fine.
But, I haven't tried to charge it. Frankly, I'm a bit scared. :-) When the charge goes dead, I might just remove it and charge it in my external charger. Does anyone have any knowledge that would make me feel more comfortable charging the battery with the built-in system of the trimmer??
Hope that helps someone!

Does anyone have a pictorial diagram for the Panasonic ER389?
Please Note: I'm not referring to the diagram that's included with the trimmer. That's essentially worthless as it fails to show How and Where the two (small) silver metal pieces need to be placed prior to closing the housing.
There are two (small) silver metal pieces that are apparently needed to keep the case closed and or keep the blade in place.

Buy another one. It is a common problem. Pansasonic is not a reliable brnad any more. I used to like it 20 years ago, but now I have got a Broken Plasma TV and a Broken brand new trimmer that doesen't charge as well. I will have to buy another brand now.
