SOURCE: I have an older schwinn airdyne with the

I would take it in for service and let the professionals give it a tune up. You have a very good machine and I am sure that it needs to have the bottom bracket tightened and lubed. We have sold over 5000 Schwinn Air Dynes since 1981 and they are always worth fixing. So give it some love and it will be with you forever. Doctors and sports teams love these machines because it has a measured workload and they can write a program for you. We sell lots of excercise machines, treadmills etc but the Schwinn Air Dyne is the best of all of them.

SOURCE: My airdyne is locked up

Take it in for service, it more that likely needs a new bottom bracket rebuild or kit. You have to have the right tools to replace or rebuild. Make sure that your chainguard is not stopping the chain from moving.

What kind of batteries does the schwinn Airdyne take its about 22 yrs old?

Most computer console batteries for Airdynes are AA, you'll have to open up the console/meter housing in the back to replace them. I will be attaching a link to a diagram of the housing. Hope this helps, sincerely SportSmith..

I have an older (25+years) Schwinn airdyne bike. The mchanism on the front wheel hub that drives the cable to the speedometer is not working. As a result, cable not driven and no load or speed...

How about going to a Schwinn dealer who has been in business for a long time? The speedometer drivers are no longer available, you have to get it changed over to electronic. This not something that you can do on your own, it has to be done by someone who knows the product. We have been in business 40+ years and sold Air Dynes since 1979, I do know what I am saying.

Looking for a Manual for an OLDER Schwinn Airdyne, cannot find any numbers. "Computer" has only 5 buttons plus 2 "select" buttons on Work/Speed, Time/Total. Buttons labelled left to right: Time/Reset,...

Send me your email address & I will send you a copy of the airdyne manual I scanned. It is a pdf copy which has description and instructions for your Airdyne computer. It has automatic (scans all features) and manual (stays on the 2 items you select in the display windows)and tells you how to change from manual to automatic and how to operate the computer. The handle bar got very loose while i was using it it suddenly went to the left this is a staionary bike the schwin areodyne can i fix this? i cannot afford repairs seems there is a big lug nut holdind...

http://www.fitnessrepairparts.com/diagram/113 This is an on-line link to the schematics for your Airdyne. The large nut between the handlebar (foot part) and the wheel hub are supposed to be pretty snug. Tighten the nut using a 6 or 8 adjustable wrench and tighten the nut clockwise. Be careful not to tighten too hard or the handlebar will not move at all. This is a very easy fix.

Battery cover & battery type for ergometer older unit

The battery cover is no longer made since this bike was last built in the late 1980's. I would recommend giving the man a timer/watch. I do have one of these little black round batter covers, and would sell for $25. However, all it does is create a timer for the rider. He already can use the analog computer to see his mileage, load, and can re-set the lower mileage to zero every workout. All the battery cover will allow is for him to set a timer for how many minutes he wants to workout for. Or he can pust the start button to time his workout. (my email is terpcafe@yahoo.com)

Owner's manual for older Schwinn Airdyne

http://support.nautilus.com/support/schwinn/uprightbikes/prdcdovr~3550012/Schwinn+Airdyne+Exercise+Bike.jsp
Follow this link and you can download the owners manual as well as the exploded parts schematics. There will be information about the different years. other than the consoles they have remained the same for 20 + years. If you ever need to replace the bottom bearing be sure to get the lock ring as well. It changed from left hand thread to right. Thats it. You can also upgrade the console to the newer version. A little expensive but with proper care a 20 year old Airdyne will last till the frame rusts out from under it.
