Hi,

The problem of failing to power on can be caused by:
1. dead battery (may no longer hold a charge);
2. corroded battery terminals or connectors;
3. open wiring from the battery casing to the internal circuitry;
4. defective on/off switch; and/or
5. defective regulator component(s) on the main PCB.

On the other hand, problem on receive can be caused by:
a. defective or worn out volume control (if manual/rotary);
b. defective or worn out squelch control (if manual/rotary);
c. mismatch in PL or CTCSS code; and/or
d. defective internal speaker.

Most can be checked with the use of a continuity tester or a DVM. Repairs involve knowledge and familiarity with electronic components and circuitry and perhaps even the use of a soldering iron. Should you not be comfortable doing it yourself, perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of help. Pls post back how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Motorola radio seems to go to sleep when not used for a while. Battery still fine.

It is called battery save. You push the push to talk about 3-5 seconds and all the radios will "wake up". On most models, it can be turned off, but battery life (time before you need to recharge) is shortened.

Motorola t5400 one will transmit one will not

Take the radios back to a very basic setting with all special features turned off. If the radios have a Qt filter check to see it is turned off, and set your Code to zero (off) on both units. Also, check to see your battery is good in both units. Trade the battery with a known good radio to see if the problem moves to the other radio, is a simple test.

Sp 50

That usually means that channel isn't programmed to transmit, it is set to receive only. Or even more likely the battery is weak and can't supply the amp or two it takes to transmit. Make sure you know what is in the radio and the condition of your battery. The SP50 is a professional grade radio and shouldn't be operated unless you know what the channels are.

Motorola talkabout MJ270R switching off when transmitting

Turning off while transmitting is typically a sign of a weak or bad battery. However, since you mention it happens with either battery type, another cause might be the length of time you are depressing the PTT button. These radios have a fail-safe to prevent damaging the final amplifier of the radio. To protect itself the radio will shut down or stop transmitting after the PTT button is held in too long. This being said, I'd check the batteries first. The rechargeable battery pack which came with the radio has a one year life expectancy. A battery can test full when it is weak and might not hold the charge when placed under a load. And usually transmit is the first thing to fail.

Best regards.

I have the motorola talkabout 2 way radios.= #MH370CR tpr . Problem - This is the 2nd set within the last 4 months The radios will shut off by themselves and sometimes will shut off just after the 1st...

I had a similar problem - my Talkabouts would not transmit - after checking the interference codes, qt, etc, it turns out the rechargeable batteries weren't able to handle the 1-watt mode. I switched to another FRS channel that only transmitted at .5 watts, and that seems to have cured the problem, but the range is probably reduced. With another set, I chucked (recycled) the rechargeables and placed 3 new AAA's in and it worked like a champ for a long time. Hope this helps

My motorola RDU2020 radio receives but does not transmit calls

1) You possibly have a bad or nearly dead battery. Transmit takes more energy than receiving. With this in mind, your radio's transmit will fail, if you have a poorly charged or bad battery, when pressing the PTT. Try a battery from a known good radio to see if it eliminates the problem. If so, replace your battery.

2) The radio is either programmed incorrectly or in need of repair. If you have been experimenting with the programmable features, we suggest you walk back through the steps of programming. Here is a link to the user guide: http://www.mytoolstore.com/motorola/rdx_userguide.pdf Programming instructions begin on page 36.

3) If in need of repair. Radios less than one year old should be under warranty, barring any physical or water damage to the unit. Contact the place of purchase or Motorola for warranty instructions.
If the radio is more than one year old you can get it repaired at any dealer offering Motorola repair. (approx. $85 flat rate)

Best regards.

Won't transmit

First I would check the interference code on both radios to see if it is set the same. It is possible you have one set to zero and the other set to another number. This would cause the problem you describe. The interference eliminator is designed to block out transmissions from radios whose settings do not match it.

If all your settings are identical, and you have only 2 radios, it is not possible to tell which one has the problem. You either have one with no transmit or one with no receive. The only way to tell which you have is to get a 3rd radio involved, set to the same settings.

Programming

Why buy a radio you cant program? I suggest you google for Motorola authorized radio shops in your area. Unless you have the software and equipment to do it, you won't be able to. You will also need letters of authorization for any channels you wish to have programed for transmit. If your a HAM or GMRS user be sure to bring a copy of your licence.
