Question about GE Profile PSW26P Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Water Leak Mine appears to be at the rear of my side-by-side near where a "drain tube" exits the back of the fridge at the level where the ice make sits. Leaking appears to start here and drip down to linoleum and accumulate near front of fridge.

Need to check to see if the drain line is still in drain pan. if so make sure the condensor fan is blowing. this is the fan beside compressor. its purpose is to transfer heat of the compressor over the drain pan to evaporate the water

Is the refrigerator and the ice maker level? Does it appear that the ice maker is over filling or slowly overflowing due to a leak in the Click here=> W10408179 Refrigerator Water Inlet Valve? Look in the rear of the ice maker where the water fill tube enters the ice maker do you see water freezing and running down to the ice bin from there? Let me know.

Hi David
In the freezer compartment - under the panel where the water / ice is collecting - towards the back - is a small pan. The pan collects the water when the defroster cycles on to melt ice & frost that collects on the cold coil behind the back wall panel. The pan has an opening with a small tube connected that allows the water to drain out to the larger pan on the floor under the fridge.
If the tube is clogged, the water will not drain and will eventually freeze. Every time the defrost comes on, some of this water will collect under the panel and drip into the fridge compartment if the drain remains frozen.
You will need to clear any obstruction in the drain tube with a short, flexible snake. Access it from the freezer compartment. Remove any built up ice and make sure the pan has not been bent or damaged in such a way that it will no longer allow the water to get to the drain tube. If the tube is clogged due to ice, you will have to thaw it out first. Squirt hot water down the tube to do this quickly - I used a turkey baster and towels in the freezer with excellent results. After the ice has been cleared - use the snake to make sure the tube is open. Replace / repair parts as needed.
After clearing, pour some water down the tube to check for flow. If flowing, empty the drain pan on the floor under the fridge. Next, mix up about 6 to 8 ounces of a 10% bleach + 90% water solution to pour into the drain you cleared. This will kill any biological (mold, etc.) blockage in the tube. Empty the drain pan on the floor under the fridge again - but be extra careful as it has bleach in it.
My fridge did this to me several times before I figured out that ice was blocking my drain. I got a piece of #10 copper wire - long enough to hang from something above (coil, heater, etc.) in the coil compartment down about 4 - 6 inches into the drain tube. Doing this allows the warm air from the heated space during defrost cycles to be conducted down the copper wire into the drain tube - making it it impossible to freeze up. It works perfectly! I recommend a #12 or 10 copper wire, but aluminum works well too. I'd stay away from steel or anything that can corrode - because it will.
Good luck!

How do i unblock the drain hole of my Miele kfn12823sd fridge freezer

Water is supposed to drain down a small drain line to a pan down near the compressor where warm air from the condenser fan will blow warm air over the water and evaporate the water again an put it back into the air inside your home, office or wherever your refrigerator is located. Over time that little drain tube gets slime, algae and a gooey white paste gunk that fills the drain line sides up like If blocked by gunk or ice you will see trails of liquid leaking down the rear wall of fresh food compartment until it reaches the crisper drawers. Gunk is an accumulation of algae slime and just crud that appears from nowhere in a refrigerators defrost condensate drain lines. This is not always the same with every model as you may see frozen ice flowing down the rear wall of freezers on side by sides. Here is an example Click here=> Whirlpool Leak Photo taken by TechnicianBrian. TechnicianBrian.com. And in this photo are several parts listed in photo group #1 were it is most likely running down the wall=> MagicChef CTB1921AR fresh food section. If you still have questions please ask and rate me if I was able to explain this well enough. Every refrigerator is made different so these are examples only. The key is to find if ice or just gunk has blocked you defrost drain. Unplug and then remove the rear panel in back of freezer. We need to see if the water is overflowing the condensate drain tray or if the blockage is in the turn the drain leads down back of your refrigerator. Much more on this page=> Leaking Refrigerators! If you run into any problems along the way of repair please let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

I have water dripping down the back panel inside the fridge-it is constant. I wipe down the inside back wall, but hours later the water is back. The fridge appears to have a "channel" for this water

with out knowing name brand an model# i would say it sounds like there is a drain tube missing from the upper patr or freezwr area to the drain hole at the rear bottom . there is a drain pan under the refridge which catches this water then it evarperates. it also cab that the proper drain is pluged or blocked with algie which is comon try a little bleach to clean out the drain area

Removed inside rear and floor panels of freezer (ice machine also) as ably advised by your tech. Found ice damming he suspected underneath floor panel. Thawed overnight with pot of hot water in freezer. could see that small rear drain tube was iced shut; why all water going into fridge below. Avoided floor mess from thawing water flow to evaporation pan on floor by tilting unit forward on blocks and laying several old towels inside freezer door to catch water that would run out. Also placed some in front at base of unit on kitchen floor. Continuing to thaw pipe to unclog, it is iced some way down, again as tech said it might. Will reassemble and be careful with freezer setting, in case it may have been too cold. Also, some food crumbs had found their way behind panel near this drain tube and may have fallen in to block it. Will clean out any remaining.

The water dispenser unit has a tube coming into the back of the fridge. Anytime you dispense water, it will also leak from this tube in the back. Also, about once a day or so, it will sound like water is...

The water inlet valve on the back of the unit where the water supply comes in can have a slow leak and will cause ice to buildup and block the fill tube. Disconnect the ice maker line from the valve and watch to see if it has a slow drip. It doesn’t take much to eventually block the fill tube. You can thaw the fill tube and replace the water inlet valve.

Water leaking inside fridge.

If you remove the back panel of your freezer you will notice what looks like a drain - melted water will go through a drain hole that extends to your refrigerator inside a cup that slowly drains the water through a tube through the back of your refrigerator and down the drip pan. Your cup may appear fine, but maybe there is some obstruction somewhere causing the water not to drain fast enough - so what happens is that the cup will eventually overflow - try to see if you can remove this and pass a long wire down the drain tube at the back to dislodge anything blocking or partially blocking it - see if you can also clean your drain cup, eventually small derbris accumulate. At the back of your freezer panel look for any partial or complete obstruction of the drain hole and its surroundings, which might be iced up.

I myself have had this problem for months, my refrigerator would have water at the bottom accumulate and eventually under the crispers a river of water :)

Cleaning the cup and the drain tube at the back of the fridge and the drain and surroundings at the back of the freezer panel should fix this problem. Sounds like your drain at the freezer level is plugged up and water is backing up and leaking from elsewhere !

"jennycub" sounds like a drain clog in the freezer compartment above. remove the freezer rear panel and totally defrost the evaporator area, directly under the evap you see( under all taht ice) a small drain hole that has become frozen over, try defrosting with either a hair dryer( not a heat gun too much heat youl melt everything) or by pouring hot water donw the drain until you get a free flow of water down the tube. after its clear reassemble and you should be fine. very common problem( easy to detect. water on the floor of freezer compartment) as far as the other posting by" humblerumble", ive seen where the drain tube under the refig has pushed a hole into the drain pan under the refrig, in which case it will only leak after a defrost cycle, with the kickplate removed grab a flashlight and look under the unit for the drain pan as you pur water into the back of the freezer sect to trace water flow

this should not be happening as a heater in the freezer should eliminate this problem.first check the hose is completely clear,if it is when your fridge goes into defrost mode you should be able to feel warmth near this drain or hear the ice crackling and defrosting thence draining via the rear tube also try removing the offending ice in the drain with hot water
