Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

My Whirlpool LHA6700W1 washing machine fills, but doesn't go into the wash cycle when the tub is filled - it just keeps running water into the tub while draining the excess at the same time. It's an old machine - is it worth trying to repair?

Sounds like you have a miscommunication between your user interface and central control unit. both very expensive to replace.

The water level selector of my whirlpool white magic-splash washing machine is causing problem..it does not stop the water at the desired level..the water keeps on flowing into the tub and then overflows...

PRESSURE SWITCH
Your pressure switch stops the water and allows it to start the next cycle. It's a switch either in the control panel or at the top of the tub with a small tube connected to it which goes down between the inner and outer tub. As the water level increases the air in the tube is compressed until there is enough pressure to "make the switch" stopping the water from filling. This tube can get clogged and the switch won't work. Remove the tube and clean it out. Blowing on the tube when it's still connected to the switch will make the switch if it's working and clear.

Water inlet valve

If it fills with water and starts the cycle and the water keeps running in then your water inlet valve on the back where the water supply comes in is sticking. It needs replacing.

No hot water for wash cycle

Hot fill valve shot or blocked

Take supply hose off the back and check the filter is not blocked

If it is clear check that it is taking in water by running the machine with no background noise in the room.

While the machine is supposed to be filling switch the power off and listen for water dripping into tub.

No noise , no fill , new valve required

Washing Machine Keeps Filling with Water through Detergent dispen

This machine has a water valve that works on vaccuum from the tub. You will see a small clear hose that runs from the side of the tub up to this valve. This valve is adjustable to change the water level in the tub to desired setting on some machines, but if it goes bad, it will not shut off, thus overflowing the tub. Find this valve and replace it if adjustment does not work.

Whirlpool washer - tub drains while it fills.

Your drain is to low. Make sure that the drain that your discharge hose is going into is at least as high as the washer. If not the water will drain out as fast as you can fill it.

LST8244BQ0 Should I just get a new washer? Overflows with water, keeps on filling. Stops filling when you switch to rinse cycle from wash cycle though. Drains well. I may have overloaded when I was washing...

Simple fix. But you might need a tech. Sounds like your water level switch needs fixed or replaced. Most work on air pressure. (Huh? your saying? :) A tube (you can't see) runs down the verticle length of the tub. As the tub fills with water the air in the tube increases the air pressure within it. There is an air pressure switch on top of the tube and the "Washer Load Size" switch adjusts so that when the air pressure is correct (water level in the tub) meets the requirements of what you set it to, then it turns off the water inlet valve and starts the washing cycle.
If this "water level tube" gets disconected, it will not work. Also if it gets cracked (it is plastic) or gets plugged somehow, or if the switch fails, you wil have water, water everywhere.

Water runs into tub but does not fill?

be sure the drain hose is not lower than the wash tub this will caust the water to run out, 2nd be sure the drain hose is not pushed to far into the house stand pipe and the there is rome for air to go inbetween the drain hose and stand pipe eather of these will cause the machine to siphon mostly on rince cycle or on the 2nd and third loads you do. last your house drain could be starting to back up fill the washer with water and listen to it drain if you hear a gurggling sound in the house pipe you may need a plumber to cleanthis out for you.
