Try cleaning all the paper feed rollers you can access, both from the bottom (paper tray pulled out) and from the front, behind the front door. It might be that the sheet is not fed properly and doesn't reach some sensor in expected time, thus the errors.
Also clean the separator - it's the small area on the paper tray where the feed roller touches; it needs some friction to hold the sheet(s) beneath the one being fed.
To clean use isopropyl alcohol or some kind of residue-free and oil-free cleaner on a piece of cloth or paper towel that does not leave lint.
