Can you see into the fuser area. That is where the toner is heated and fused to the paper. I think their is a rear door for checking this. If the toner is melted to the teflon roller then it will have to be replaced.

I believe you can look inside and to the rear and see the fuser on this model. If it need a fuser then it is possibly not worth repairing. I would charge about $110.00 for the repair. Check with a local shop.

Remove the drum and toner from printer, turn printer off and find the glass scanner bar on the top of the inside of printer. Clean that with a paper towel and window cleaner. Wipe dry. DO NOT SPRAY INSIDE THE PRINTER. Only spray window cleaner on towel.

I am getting a faded line of text horizontally through the page. I tried new toner but this is not working.

Had a similar problem. The following solution from the Brother site seemed to fix it.

  1. Gently wipe the scanner window with a soft dry cloth. The scanner window is located on the roof of the inside of the printer.
  2. On the top of the drum unit (DR400), locate the blue tab on the left side. Slide it back and forth across the drum about 30 times.
  3. Remove the toner cartridge (TN430 or TN460) from the drum unit. To remove the toner from the drum: hold down the blue lever on the right side of the drum and lift the toner off of the drum unit.
  4. Inside the drum unit there is a green roller. Wipe the green drum roller with a dry tissue (i.e. Kleenex). You may turn this roller by moving the gears on the far left side.

Printer keeps saying to clean the corona wire. I cleaned it several times but the message keeps popping up.

To clean the corona wire in the brother laser printer, it said to remove the drum/toner assembly from the printer. This is very easy to do, you simply pull down the front of the printer, and press a small green tab down and pull. Then the toner and drum assembly will quickly come out.
After that, it says you must clean the corona wire by moving a small green square back and forth several times. It seemed kind of strange to me, but I did it anyways. In the upper right corner of the drum/toner assembly, there is a small green/blue square that can be moved back and forth. I did this several times.
I then placed the unit inside, and the error message went away for a minute. However it still wouldn't print and the error message came right back up. I was a bit frustrated since I have only owned this printer for about 2-3 months.
But then I realized something: The toner button had been blinking for about a month. I had already purchased a high yield black toner cartridge for the brother laser printer (Tn-330/TN360). I purchased it online, and had it stored for when I eventually ran out of toner.
I thought perhaps the error message had something to do with the old toner. Maybe it was out?? So I once again opened the front of the laser printer, and removed the toner/drum assembly. I pressed a green tab, removed the old toner, and then added the brand new high yield black laser toner cartridge. The whole process was very simple (you gotta love today's technology).
I then quickly "cleaned the corona wire" a few times again just to be safe. I re-installed the toner, and the printer was up and running. So apparently it will throw this error when you are out of toner. Now the printer is running great again, and I really like this printer.
If you are still using an ink jet printer, then you are living in the stone age. I was reluctant to buy a new laser printer, but now I love it. The toner only costs $30-60 and lasts for months. I print hundreds of labels out each month-just to give you an idea of how long it lasts.or get more information Call +877 889 6859 for detail.

My printer comes up with an error saying I need to slide the green tab in the drum/cartridge back and forth several times and return the green tab back to where it belongs. I have done this several times...

Moving the GREEN TAB moves the toner-ink inside the cartridge, to more uniformly spread it.

Since the toner-cartridge is nearly empty, you probably need to replace the toner-cartridge with a "full" one.

The fax machine is saying remove the drum there is dust on the corona wire.

Use the corona cleaning wire to clean the dust off. Open the front cover. Remove the drum/toner unit. look on the right side of the drum portion above the toner unit for a plastic tab with a triangle arrow that points to the left. Slide this tab back and forth several times. Move the tab back to the right. Reinstall the drum/toner unit. Close the front cover.

Clean the corona wire in this manner every time you change the toner/drum.

Black stripes down paper

You remove the drum/toner cartridge and run the blue tab on top back and forth several times then blow out the slot with canned air, while it's out you reach inside with a soft cloth and wipe the narrow window above where the drum sits, open the back door and shine a light inside to see if the lines are on the fuser roller, if there you will need a new fuser.

Brother HL-2040, The drum light keeps coming on and the left side of the printed page is all black?

Sounds like the toner cart. has toner packed at one end and possibly the drum cartridge is dirty. Remove both from the printer, separate the 2 and vacuum the drum cart. - them blow it clean. Run the drum wire cleaner (purple/blue tab on front edge of drum cart.) back & forth a number of times. Blow out the inside of the printer to get out toner dust. Reinstall toner back into drum cart, then hold GO/Control button down until all lights are on, let go, reinstall toner&drum back into printer, close door. Power down - then back on. That should do it. Worst case, you'll have to replace the drum unit.

I'm getting drum error message, it says move blue tab back and forth, I don't what the drum is and I don't see blue tabs

Open your document feeder cover (it pivots away from you), then open the forward top cover (it pivots towards you). Inside the machine is the drum / toner unit, remove it. On top of this assembly is the blue tab (plastic handle) either on the left or right side. Slide that tab back and forth ~ 4 or 5 times. Reinstall the drum / toner unit. Close the top cover, then the document feeder cover. Done...

The inside could be dirty, blowing it out could help, but first try taking out the toner and drum and cleaning the corona by running the blue tab near the front back and forth about 20 times and then blow out that area with a can of air. If you can see the lines on the drum, you may need a new drum.

Drum ( i think)

I had the same problem and emailed brother. they suggested cleaning the drum by taking out the toner cartridge, and cleaning the primary corona wire which is inside the drum unit and can be found' by locating the blue tab on the top of the drum unit and sliding it from left to right several times. Return the blue tab to the home position before reinstalling the toner and drum unit assembly.'

The blue tab thingie is in the back and goes side to side which is different than the blue tab that you push to get the toner cartridge in. That one goes back and forth.

Anyway, I tried it and it worked for me.

P.S. the instructions from Brother also said that you might want to clean the laser glass with a dry lint free cloth. This is the think piece of glass above where drum unit is installed. they warn NOT to use any liquid. However, i did not have to do this. the blue tab (corona wire) worked by itself.
