If this is a push type mower, most likely is has sheared the flywheel key and bent the bent blade caused the vibration. The blade will need replaced and likely the flywheel key.

SOURCE: Lawn mower sounds like it is running fast and vibrating.

Sounds like a bent shaft, or bent blade.
Also sounds like the part that holds the blade to the shaft is sheared, and allowing the motor to run faster than it would if it is turning the blade properly.
Hope this helped,

SOURCE: I have a Poulan push

If you are sure the oil level is correct then it sounds like it's about to die, unfortunately. A pine cone shouldn't cause any damage, but a large branch may do so. Was it smoking before you shut it down? The vibration could be caused from a bent blade. It could also be caused from a part breaking in the motor. I wish I could have given you better news!
Good Luck,
Jim

Just purchased a toro zero turn mower at garage sale. Ran very well first couple weeks. I was running it the other day, shut it down, jumped back on 10 mins later, mower does not start.

You'll need to check all the safety switches. Probably one in the seat, one for the mower engaged, one for clutch/parking brake engaged, possibly one for reverse gear selected, and possibly for position of the steering arms.

Model 917.370410 won't start

Sounds to me like this model is a POS. I also have this same model, purchased last August have used only 5 or 6 times , has the same symptoms: hard pull, puff of smoke, won't run , etc. Even brought this to an authorized dealer to get it to run, but then it only ran a couple more times, dead again. Does anyone know of any recalls fro this lemon? I can appreciate everyone troubleshooting , but you shouldn't have to tear apart a 5 month old lawnmower which will only result in your warranty being voided.

The mower vibrates a lot

Either the blade is badly out of balance/bent or it has hit something hard enough to bend the crankshaft which I have seen happen quite a few times. It could also have sheared the flywheel key causing the engine to be out of time but usually when that happens they won't even start and run.

Honda HR215 hits stump - still runs and cuts but engine vibrates when running IF the BLADE IS NOT TURNING.

you could have bent the blade or the crank look at the blade then remove the blade mount and spark plug turn on its side and turn the engine over and look for crankshaft runout

Mower starts but won't stay running

check the inside of the cap. Check the underside of the gas cap for a cardboard disk. Remove the disk, and try starting again. My mower had same problem, and I removed the disk and suddenly it ran like there was no problem at all.

Black & decker MM 850 Electric Lawn mower/mulcher. Upon start up, there is major vibration. No way I can run it like this..

Try removing the blade. If the mower runs smooth, replace or balance it.
If not, the mower shaft may be bent. Did you hit something hard with the blade?

I have a husqvarna self-propelled lawn mower/keystart with leaf bag. i hit a small tree root and now it wont start. the cord back fires a little when you pull it. will a bent blade stop it from cranking?

Hi hardister2...

Sounds like you sheared the key that holds the flywheel to the crankshaft, this is a common occurance when you hit something hard with the mower running.
You will have to remove the flywheel to replace the key.
No a bent blade will not stop the mower from running, but should always be replaced
It can cause problems later with the seal under the mower, it will start to leak oil.
