The only sound a fan should make is a high or low velocity blowing sound. if it grinds, here is why.
It is either a defrost timer or limit switch, That's the little clip on device located on top of one of your freezer coils. This is the most common item to die on many refrigerators. It is also pretty inexpensive, and easy to get from Sears or 1stsource parts. In rare cases your defrost heater may go bad, but I haven't had to replace one in a long while.

The beep sound indicates defect in the rams or the rams are loose please remove the rams then clean the copper contact with a pencil erase and re seat them if the problem persist then replace the rams to resolve the issue.
