How do I open my shark plus 1200w vacuum

place the vacuum cleaner in the vacuuming position with the wheels in normal rolling position. Slip your 4 fingers excluding your thumb into the hole located next to the nozzle(where this hose connects to the main body). Yank straight up and the bag compartment will open.

I put a new vacuum bag in and I get no sunction at the other end of the hose.

Make sure the hose is attached securely to the main vacuum body.

Make sure there are no obstructions in the hose or at the hose opening in the body.

Make sure the cover for the vacuum cleaner bag compartment is securely shut.

Good luck.

There are six different reasons a vacuum can lose suction, a plugged vacuum hose, bad motor, full vacuum bag, or cracked or damage hoses. Purchasing a vacuum cleaner can be a costly expense while repairing the suction on the unit can be virtually free. Most suction loss problems on a vacuum can be easily fixed or remedied with common house hold tools and very little technical expertise.
If your vacuum cleaner losses suction, the first and easiest solution is to check the bag. If the vacuum cleaner bag is full suction will be greatly reduced and the unit will become ineffective. A vacuum cleaner works by passing air through the bag fibers leaving dirt and debris behind inside the bag. If the refuse bag becomes full, airflow is restricted, limiting the amount of air passing through the vacuum bag resulting in loss of suction. When replacing the vacuum bag always consult your owners manual to insure that the vacuum bag seals with the vacuum inlet hose. If your vacuum cleaner bag is not tightly sealed to the vacuum inlet hose you will decrease the air flow through the bag resulting in loss of suction.
The second and sometimes most common reason for loss of suction on a vacuum cleaner is a plugged vacuum hose. If the hose becomes plugged, air flow will become restricted. To unplug a vacuum hose detach it from the machine and inspect the inside. If there is a restriction in the hose, remove it with your fingers and replace the hose onto the unit. If the hose is long and the debris is hard to get too, a broom handle or other long object can be passed through the hose to dislodge the debris. Most vacuum cleaners contain more that one suction hose, so make sure to check each one by process of elimination. Another area that can become easily plugged on a vacuum cleaner is under the lower base of the unit by the roller brush. Large debris can get caught in this area and restrict air flow to the hose.
If your vacuum refuse bag is not full and the suction hoses are not plugged the next thing to check is the condition of the hoses. Many hoses are made from plastic which can easily tear or crack. If your vacuum cleaner shows signs of wear or are cracked they need to be replaced. Even the smallest hole in a vacuum hose can leak enough air to greatly diminish the suction potential of your unit. Replace your vacuum cleaner parts with OEM parts from the original manufacturer to ensure the tightest fit.
Most vacuum cleaners contain filters. Filters are used as a last line of defense to remove dust and smaller debris particles before the air is recycled back into the environment. If vacuum cleaner filters become dirty or plugged they also can decrease the amount of air traveling through the unit. Some filters can be easily rinsed with water whereas others need to be replaced. It is important to check your owners manual before rinsing a vacuum filter.
The last and probably least common problem for a vacuum cleaner to loose suction is a bad or failing vacuum motor. Over time vacuum motors lose power due to worn carbon brushes or long term damage. A vacuum cleaners worst enemy is moisture. If water or moisture is sucked into the vacuum motor it will greatly diminish the amount of suction the unit has. Replacing a vac motor can be a costly and time consuming ordeal. In some cases, replacing a vacuum motor can outweigh the cost of buying a new vacuum. Vacuum suction is measured in water lift which can easily be measured by using a water lift gauge. If the water lift measured in inches, falls below half the original water lift specifications for the unit, it is time to replace your motor. Most vacuum cleaner repair shops carry this type of equipment and can easily tell you if it is time for a new vac motor.

What charge for this service?

Hi,

Actually there are no hidden screws on your Electrolux Epic model. This is the newer plastic body canister made by Aerus Electrolux. In order to open the vacuum cleaner to inspect the motor, first open the vacuum bag door and remove the vacuum bag. After the vacuum bag has been removed, keep the vacuum bag door open.

The two rubber furniture guards on both sides of the vacuum cleaner are actually what are holding the top housing and the bottom housing together. You'll need to slide both of these rubber furniture guards off in order to open the rest of the vacuum cleaner. They slide forward towards the vacuum bag housing which is why the door needs to be open.

In order to get these slides started, it's sometimes necessary to put a flat head screwdriver in between the back of the furniture guard and the start of the cord reel housing. Right after the rubber starts behind the word Electrolux. Fit a flat head screw driver in this gap, and it's sometimes easier to use a hammer, and hit the screw driver that's on the furniture guard facing the front of the vacuum.

With a little perseverance, you should be able to get the slide started, and when the slide starts to come out past the vacuum bag housing, simply grab the end of it with a pair of pliers, and pull the rest of it out of the vacuum.

Do this on both sides of the vacuum, and you'll be able to separate the two housings, and get access into the motor compartment.

If you have any problems, or would like me to take a few pictures of this being done, I'd be happy to do so. Please just rate my repair as helpful if you found this advice useful. I really do appreciate this.

Thank you,

Chris J.

No power

The most common cause of this problem would be breakage of the wires in the power cord at the point of entry to the vacuum cleaner body. With the power connected you may be able to prove this by flexing the cord at this point, particularly by pushing the cord toward the body of the vacuum cleaner. If you get any signs of life from the vacuum cleaner you can know that this is the issue (not a foolproof test, but one that can be performed safely, provided that there is no visible damage to the lead).

A qualified repairer will ensure that the vacuum cleaner is not plugged in to the power, open the vacuum cleaner casing, note the wiring connections, disconnect the wiring and and strip the external sheath of the cable back to a point beyond the breakage, cutting off the damaged section of wiring and reconnecting the wires.

Electrolux ambassdor will not run after pluggen in

Greeting from GoVacuum,

On all Electrolux canister vacuum cleaners, there is a kill switch, that will not allow the machine to turn on without a bag in it. Sometimes when replacing the bag, the bag is placed in a position where the switch is not being activated.

When you open the bag housing, it should look like this;
91cabdc.jpg

You'll notice in the bottom right corner of the bag housing, the kill switch to the vacuum cleaner.
3594972.jpg

Try plugging the vacuum cleaner in, and while you are pressing this kill switch down, turn on the vacuum cleaner. Does the vacuum cleaner turn on/off when you push/release the kill switch? If it does, simply just get a new bag, and make sure that the new bag is covering the kill switch, and close the door of the vacuum cleaner.

If it still doesn't start, let me know and I'll try to help you diagnosis the machine differently. I'd say that 6 out of 10 times, this kill switch is the problem.

I hope this helps you. Please email me with any questions, or if this fix doesn't make your vacuum work. I really enjoy sharing my passion, and expertise in repairing vacuum cleaners.
