SOURCE: how do i adjust the print head gap on a tally

The 2280+ does NOT have a head gap leaver you can adjust the gap from with the menu on the printer.
The printer has an automatic gap adjust which should set the correct gap for most types of paper.

The print head gap can be changed in the following way;

  1. Put the printer OFFLINE
  2. Press SETUP
  3. Press the button under ADJUST on the display
  4. Press the button under HEAD
  5. You can now change the print head gap, if the Automatic Gap Agjust is working the gap setting should go from -10 to +10.
    If the Automatic Gap Adjust is not working this value will go to values smaller than -10 to larger than +10
If the Head gap will go to values less than -10 and greater than +10, first check the AGA is enabled. This can be done in the following way;
  1. Power the printer OFF
  2. Hold down the ONLINE button and power the printer ON, keep the ONLINE button held down untill the pritner has finished initializing.
  3. Press NEXT repeatedly untill you see AGA
  4. Select AGA
  5. Channge this to ALWAY or ON (cant remember!)
  6. Press SET
  7. Power the pritner OFF and back ON to exit the menu.
If the AGA option does not apear in the TEST menu above the Automatic Gap Adjust is not working and will need to be checked out.

This problem is related to the BTR = Bias Transfer Roller. You'll need to replace it soon or just clean it up (if no fisical damage). The clean up proccess is very simple but dusty.

Tally genicon 6605 is printing from top to bottom of the page...what could be the problem


I think it depends on what you mean by printing from top to bottom of the page.
If you are describing the print being rotated by 90 degrees so rather than a line of print going across the page from left to right, the print goes up and down the length of the page.
The most common cause of this is that you are printing from a Windows application and you have set the page orientation to LANDSCAPE rather than PORTRAIT.
With in the application you are printing from look for the PAGE SETUP options ensue you select PORTRAIT.
This should rotate the print.

Tally 2265 is showing AGA error.


Has something to do with the Automatic Gap Adjustment. Owner's manual says:

For more detailed information, refer to the Reference Manual on the Online CD-ROM, which I do not have (I only have the owner's manual).

You may have to talk with tech support at 800-774-2248. This will be Printronix (bought Genicom and Tally).

Hi There. I have Tally T2265 Serial Matrix Printer. It shows "Hardware Alarm & Check Ribbon Error" after printing 2 or 3 pages. Sometime it prints 7-8 pages and sometime it prints 2-3lines...


The check ribbon message on the 2265 indicates the printer is detecting problems with moving the print head. You have ruled out the ribbon as being the cause of the problem by using ribbons from another printer.
Before suspecting other components check the printer model, if the printer is a 2265+ check to ensure the correct ribbon is used. Note the ribbon for the 2265+ is different to the 2265 ribbon. The 2265+ has a ribbon sensor to detect the ribbon moving. If the printer is a 2265+ the part number for the ribbon should be 062471.

If the correct ribbon is used the problem could be the timing strip which could be dirty or warn. Try cleaning this and check for damage.
The problem can also be caused by a dirty or lubricated carriage shaft, the carriage shaft should be clean and dry running - Keep clean of any type of lubricant.
The problem can also be caused by the timing station on the carriage, the carriage motor.

AGA ERROR IN TALLY 2265


either your aga motor is bad or your board set is bad. Turn unit on watch the printhead while opening the cover. The printhead should move back and display "cover open". When you close cover the printhead should move closer to paper. If not bad aga motor or bad board set.

Normale bedrijfssituatie:
Als beide lampjes knipperen en het papier is op gegaan tijdens afdrukken:
Leg papier in en druk op de knop met de "druppel+pagina" om de afdruktaak in het geheugen van de printer te voltooien.

Wanneer papier is vastgelopen:

Tally t2265 'check ribbon' hardware alarm... carriage moves ok, 2 new ribbons ...that came from other machines,,,, ribbon drive seems fine, could it be encoder strip??? please help!

Tally 2265 paper jam


I am not familiar with this particular printer, but dot matrix printers are not complicated. Being that it is old, it very well be that a sensor is dirty or bad. There probably is only one or two of them. I suggest you carefully take the cover off, and expose the platen roller. If it is removed easily, take it out and clean it with dish detergent and water. Better yet, use WD40, because it will revitalize the roller a bit. be sure to use the dish detergent to get the WD40 film off. Now, look for any small switches in the paper path. Something may even be holding it down. The switch part may only be an actuator, and you may have to follow the arm to the photo interrupt switch. Clean in between the posts of its an interrupt switch. If you can't find anything jumping out at you, its probably time for a new printer.
