I replaced fuel pump, cleaned carb, checked timing, i believe i timed right, with business card, replaced fuel & filter, plugs, how would i check all timing points?


im not sure what problem you are having with it there is a key that aligns the crankshaft to the flywheel and the timing many over look is the valves just being out of adjustment throws off the timing briggs have adjustable valve and kohler has hydro

I have a troy bilt 42 inch 17 hp lawn tractor. The problem is when I cut grass and i get in some thicker grass the blades turn off then I back out the blades restart. The engine never bogs down


One or more of your drive belts is in need of adjustment or replacement, maybe. Possibly, your electric (or manual) PTO clutch could also be adjusted. You do have the spring tensioner on the deck engaged, right? You say the engine doesn't bog when this happens so I am inclined to think "clutch" and/or "PTO belt" to the deck and/or the "deck tensioner" are the things to check.

The tensioner will be the easiest, it is a handle on the left side ON the deck. Has a BIG spring on it. Make sure it is engaged.

Is yours a Troy Bilt manufactured in Troy New York or is it another manufacturer (MTD?). Troy Bilt is actually out of business, having sold the Troy name to a variety of makers depending on the model line. I don't have the run down on who makes what any more (tillers, chippers, mowers, blowers, trimmers, etc.), but Troy Bilt of Troy, NY is no more. :-(

I have a 16 HP Troy with 42 inch deck driven through a electric clutch. I also have a "grass pump" on my deck. Important maintenance tips: Keep the bearings greased, keep the deck clean underneath. The belt on the deck should have the tensioner released when you are NOT mowing. Keep the blades sharp and in good repair. Mow with engine at full speed. When you get to areas of heavy growth, slow the tractor down (hydro drive) or reduce to a lower gear (gear drive). NEVER adjust speed using the "clutch" (hydro drive or gear drive). When you engage the blades (electric or manual) always have the engine just above idle, bring the engine speed up slowly to preserve the belts and reduce stress on all components.

Craftsman GT 3000 will not drive forward or reverse,belt seems ok


Is it a hydro drive or gears? If hydro the trans-axle is bad & needs to be replaced. It is an easy but expensive job.

check your kick down cable attached to the carb, it may be out of adjustment and forcing the trans to stay in "passing gear"

I own a Snapper riding mower, hydrostat drive, 14.5 Hp, 38 cut. Reverse speed has suddenly been reduced to a crawl. Could it be the brakes need adjusting or is the engine/transmission shot?


could be a linkage came loose, or that the fluid level in trans is low, has nothing to do with engine but the hydros are prone to failure, also the hydro is driven by a vbelt which can stretch and mimic a trans problem

My brakes are not braking correctly, I need to know where to adjust

The Following is a General Instruction File I Made for this Problem. Readjust the Brake Rods to the Original Positions. Now to Adjust the Brake Pads. Tighten the Center Adjusting Nut Until SNUG. Loosen the Adjuster Nut 1/8 Turn and Try the Brakes. If Braking is Not to your Satisfaction, then Adjust the Center Adjusting Nut on the Disc Brake Assembly Slightly (1/8" at a time) Until the Proper Braking is Achieved.
The Brake Assembly is on the Left Side of you Hydro Transaxle.
You can View the Husqvarna Model List at this Site Addy, http://www.partstree.com/parts/ and Click on the Husqvarna Logo. Now Enter the Model Numbers GTH 2448 T in the Search Box on the Left and Click Go. Now Select the Model of the Equipment you Wish to View. The GTH 2448 T 917.279260 has a Hydro transaxle Breakdown.

check you aux hydurlic pump, ford will have one pump for the powersteering and one on the right hand side for the brake
