Tool two handle switches off and put back on, took battery connection off and put back on and it cranked. Let it run awhile and turned off it would not crank. Each time we took battery connection off and put back on it would crank. Did this reset something on mower to cause it to reboot?

Do the cables get real hot? This is a sign tht the starter is drawing too many amps. The armature or field coils have to be shorting out or are open when it gets hot.

Recheck your connection at the battery and the solenoid. The clicking noise is probably the solenoid. The starter may have a shorted out field coil or armature. This will cause a starter crank over sometimes but it will have a bad spot where it will not crank. Check connection at starter as well.

I need a diagram to remove a housing on a scag freedom z

you need to figure out what you are trying to ask... if you mean dis-assemble the transaxle then you're looking in the wrong place. Scag doesn't build those. Hydro Gear does

It was cranking on 1st or second pull, ran out gas half way thru yard, put in gas, it cranked and ran 10 ft& cutoff. now it will try to fire but wont crank and stay cranked??

Many issues possible. I would try a gas stabilizer. This can clean out the carb. There is a needle value which can get clogged and thus cause the lack of gas. This happen when the gas runs out and the minerals on the bottom of the gas tank get in the carb. flushing the carb or rebuilding is obviously the next option.

I have a cub cadet lt104 and we replaced the battery and solenoid and it won't start

wont crank or wont start. 2 different things...

wont crank, in this order: check fuse, brake switch ( adjustment and operation ) and then ignition switch

wont start but does crank: check for spark, yes then check fuel shut off solenoid. no, disconnect kill wire to coil and check again, still no, coil is issue, if yes after disconnecting kill wire suspect a safety switch

My freedom z will not start

1. Be sure the fuel shutoff valve, located behind the
operator's seat, is completely open.
2. Sit in the operator's seat, fasten seat belt and place
the steering control levers in the neutral position.
3. Engage the parking brake.
4. Place the PTO switch in the disengaged position.
5. If the engine is cold, choke the engine as needed.
6. Move the engine throttle control to about half engine
7. Turn the ignition key to the START position and
release the key as soon as the engine starts. Do
not hold the key in the START position for more
than 15 seconds at a time. Allow at least 60
seconds between each cranking attempt to prevent
overheating of the starter motor. Prolonged cranking
can damage the starter motor and shorten battery
8. Allow engine to warm before operating the mower.

Won't start

The click means the starter solenoid is acting. Most starters are like GM autos where this solenoid is on the starter. Often heat adversely effects these parts. Try tapping the solenoid and try to start it. If that works then a rebuild is indicated.
