Question about La Crosse Wireless Weather Station

Open Question

Why does my sensor/transmitter not light up in the LCD?

I m wondering what needs to be done to get my sensor to work.Several times this winter it would stop working due to extreme cold weather conditions, but I was always able to reset it. I also installed a new battery and it worked well for a little while, then it quit and I can t get it to light up in the LCD when I try to reset it. I had placed it just outside of a window in a vynil window frame. I have called in about this problem and was given 639295 for my case no.I apologize that I was unable to take your return call due to work. However,I will be available all day May 7th. If you could call me then, I would appreciate it. Thank-you!

SOURCE: outside temp not measuring correctly

I keep the outside unit of our in/out set under a coffee can shaded under a bench; one could argue the aesthetics but shielding it from wind and sun is mandatory otherwise one can get record temps pretty often.
The outside units generally transmit to the receivers only every few minutes to keep battery consumption down so moving them won't necessary gie you an immediate change.

SOURCE: Second hand has stopped working.

Just setup the clock once again by replacing the battery and check. If this also does not help you, the the press fitting of the second is loose. you have to open it to make it pressed firm.

To set up your clock simply install one fresh AA, LR6 ALKALINE battery. Due to the nature of long wave radio signals it is normally not possible to receive a signal during the day so it is best to install the battery late in the evening. Select your time zone by pressing one of the four time zone buttons PT-Pacific Time, MT-Mountain Time, CT-Central Time, ET-Eastern Time. The time zone buttons may be pressed any time after installing the batteries. If multiple buttons are pressed the clock will set to the time zone selected last. If no time zone is selected the clock will default to Pacific Time. Another time zone can be selected during or after the clock has set itself. Your clock can only set itself to one of the four time zones stated above. For time zones outside of PT, MT, CT or ET you must manually set the time using the Manual Time set button on the back of the movement.
When the battery is installed the second hand will advance eight seconds (two seconds per step x four steps). The clock is now searching for a signal. For the initial setting it is recommended to stand the clock in an upright position near a window. Within five minutes the clock will either receive the WWVB signal and set itself to the exact time, or it will determine that the signal is not receivable at its current location and time of day. If a signal is not receivable it will fast-forward the hands to the 4, 8, or 12 o'clock position and search for WWVB each

hour until a signal is received. If the time is manually set the clock will continue to periodically search for a signal and automatically reset the hands when the signal is received.
Select a location to place your radio controlled clock where it will be at least six feet away from a TV, computer, air conditioner or other household electrical appliances. The optimal location is near a window. Windows facing Colorado providing the best signal. The WWVB time signal will easily penetrate Masonry and wood framed buildings. WWVB will penetrate almost every residential building and most steel buildings if they have adequate windows. It is not possible, however, for WWVB to penetrate most indoor shopping malls and rooms in the center of large office buildings that do not have windows. In buildings that WWVB cannot penetrate you may set the time using the manual time set button. When the clock is exposed to the WWVB signal it will automatically set the hands to the exact time.

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
?Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

No signal

If what you mean by this is the Red Light that comes on saying NO SIGNAL... that's your transmitter. In a 96, it's common to have a transmitter unit to your engine. If you have no signal it's either one of two problems with the transmitter: Either the Transmitter module under the hood, or the transmitter in your key. The 90s Explorers have a square end key that has a special chip in it. You might just need a new key. AND no you can't just have one cut. But if you have a spare key with the chip, and that one works, then just get another key to "match code program" the key. If that's it and it simply just doesn't work, then you need a transmitter. I had a 98 that did the same, but my problem was the relay under the hood. Sometimes it may just be that simple: a bad relay in the main fuse box. Doesn't hurt to check.

If it's the transmitter, it gets pricey because you have to have it fully programmed. Price compare with local shops. A dealership will charge an arm and a leg just on labor. Unfortunately if you don't have a spare key that works on the ignition, then you WILL have to have a diagnostic done.

This solution is only in regards to that light. But there are also other problems such as needing spark plugs. The 96 over time needs the upgraded Iridium Spark Plugs by Bosch. DON'T GO CHEAP. They will blow fast. One problem if left unresolved can cause problems. So really, I recommend you get the electronic diagnostic done, however like I said, most often it has to do with the transmitter.

Good luck!

How do you clear and re-enter a new code for wall mounted remote

To change the code you need to locate the smart/learn button which is near where all those white wires go. Press and immediately release it and then walk over to your keypad and key in any 4 digit code you like and press enter.

See if this works for your car.

  1. Clear out anything previously programmed into the in-car system from the factory by holding down on the 2-outside buttons simultaneously, until the in-car LED starts flashing rapidly. This may take up to a minute (in most cases, the key should be on auxillary, and/or the car door must be shut).
  2. Decide which button you want to make to be your in-car garage door transmitter. Hold your transmitter up near the selected button, pressing both the garage door remote and the selected in-car transmitter button simultaneously. Hold down on the buttons until the in-car, LED light flashes rapidly. This sets the in-car remote transmitter to be your garage door openers make transmitter, but you are not done. You now need to make this in-car transmitter your personal transmitter.
3. Go to the Learn Button on your garage door opener. The button is usually next to the area where the floppy antenna is connected to the motor head. With Genie it is most often behind the light lens, and an indicator light flashes red when pressed. With Sears or Liftmaster (Chamberlain) it is near, or part of, the terminal screw board, and is a red, green or purple square button with a green, amber or purple indicator light. Press this learn button momentarily. The indicator light will turn on and blink if Genie or otherwise stay lit. For Genie systems, go back to the in-car transmitter button you programmed and press this button 3 or 4 times, or until the door starts moving. This should set your in-car transmitter to your garage door opener. For Liftmaster, Sears, or Linear Megacode press and hold the in-car button you programmed until the garage opener light flashes. Your in-car is now programmed to operate your door.

LCD light will not come on

The old LED back light dims over time and can be replaced with newer and brighter LEDs. I have done this on several of these radios and it works wonders! Easy to do but if your not skilled then find a good repairman.
Now if your LCD display id hard to see then it may be a memory battery problem. First ting to do is replace the AA batteries, be sure to clean their contacts. Second, if that does not work the negative contact may not be making a good connection. That fix is a bit more complicated, needs to be done by a good technician. Send me your email and I possible can help out.

Need to program autopage 5b remote

Note: This mode will only retain the last 4 remote transmitters programmed. If the transmitter memory is exceeded,
the security system will start deleting transmitters from memory in chronological order.
1. Turn the Ignition 'switch ‘OFF/ON’ 3 TIMES and stay in ON position. Within 15 seconds.
2. Push the Valet switch 3 times and holding in on 3rd push until a long chirp is heard then release the valet switch.
You are now in the Transmitter programming mode.
3. Press and hold any button of the transmitter until the siren responds with a confirming chirp, indicating the signal
has been stored into memory.
4. If you have additional transmitters (up to 4) that need to be programmed, repeat step 3 for each transmitter.
Exit: Turn Ignition to 'OFF' position, or leave it for 15 seconds. 3 long chirps & 3 parking
light flashes will confirm exit.

Remote Sensor

make sure your time is set and the atomic clock time is recieved, then leaving the rear cover off of the transmitter, push the "tx" button not the "c/f" that is just for centegrade or ferenhight. you will see the red light on the front of reciever flash in a few seconds. The temp should display on your clock screen. If not, did the red l.e.d. light on transmitter flash. If not, its not sending data to clock. I have to reset and hit transmit every time I replace batteries on transmitter. Had no problems for over 2 years of using outside. If your not getting a reading with transmitter sitting next to clock after hitting "tx" button you may have defective transmitter.
