Does the motor run when its supposed to spin? if not its probebly a lid swich problem. if the motor runs it may be a coupler or poss. cluch. sometimes a sock in between the tubs.

SOURCE: Washer does not spin

Hi, There are several causes for this problem. Check these.

  • No spin at all: the lid switch is fried. You test it with your meter.                                  There will be a motor which spins the washing machine's drum.                                              If you don't hear the motor running, then its the lid switch which would have been broken and needs replacing. A bad lid switch wil interrupt the spin cycle.

  • In the Whirlpool washers, a common problem is that the lid plunger stops making contact with the lid switch. Use a pen to manually press the lid switch actuator (with the lid up, duh). If the washer spins...well, you know the rest.

  • Older (belt-drive) Whirlpool: the spin solenoid is burned out or has cut wires. Ohm out that solenoid (20-30 ohms) and test with a test cord. Make sure the wires are intact by giving them a little tug. If this is OK, you may need to adjust/replace the basket drive.

  • Timer is fried. On older timers, it's sometimes possible to run an external jumper to replace the bad internal contacts. Usually, however, the entire timer must be replaced. The only way to confirm is to use your meter and wiring diagram.

These are the causes that have to be inspected. You can also visit this site www.whirlpool.com/custserv/index.jsp

Hope my info solves your problem, Thanx for using fixya, Good luck.

SOURCE: Whirlpool direct drive washer wont spin

Well I ended up having to trouble shooting the problem on another web page that didn't cost any thing to get my answer.  I sent my first entry in and received a reply.  I then sent in a second entry because through trouble shooting my washer I figured out that it was not a motor problem but never received another answer.  The problem ended up being the drive clutch.  It was worn down and was which caused very little friction and the clutch never caught to spin the basket.  Now it spins great.  Seeing as how you did not provide the help you said you would it would be nice to get a refund.
Thanks Rich

Washer fills with water as usual then it will try to agitate and spin at same time.

WASHER SPINS AND AGITATES AT SAME TIME:

( Belt drive) I SUSPECT YOU HAVE A BAD TRANSMISSION SPRING ITS NOT THAT EXPENSIVE OR DIFFICULT TO FIX. YOU CAN INSPECT IT BY TURNING MACHINE ON ITS SIDE AND LOOKING AT THE TRANSMISSION SPINDLE, SHOULD BE LOCATED UNDER THE PULLEY WHEELS AND MOTOR ( ON BELT DRIVE MODELS). U WILL NOTICE A SPRING ABOUT 2-3 INCHES LONG GOING AROUND THE SPINDLE IT SHOULD ALL BE ONE PIECE IF IYTS BROKEN OR CRACKED ETC IT NEEDS REPLACING. -

Another thing to Check is the wig/wag solenoid also in some models. The cam shaft may have slid and broken away from wig wag solenoid

( Direct drive) a simple way of determining with spin or agitate problem is with your washer's transmission (also called a gearcase) or some other part like a clutch or a drive motor coupler. And usually the problem is in the transmission itself in direct drive models. When it comes to spin and agitate at same time.

your next step is toremove the cabinetand jumper the lid switch harness (tan to gray). Put the unit in spin and watch the shiny metal clutch disc that is on top of the transmission where the shaft comes out. If the machine starts and runs in spin, check to see if the disc is spinning. If it is, then the problem isnot in the gearcase- look for trouble in theclutch(see the "Clutch" section below),basket driveor thetub drive block(see the "Drive Block" section below).
If, on the other hand, the disc is NOT spinning, check for a problem withthe motor drive coupleror one of its retainers. This washer doesn't have a belt. Instead, the motor is directly coupled to the gearcase by a drive coupler; that's why it's called a direct drive washer. BTW, replacing the motor coupler is probably the single most common repair on this washer.

Hey anonymous111 Using my sisters asko w6551 quatro. I hndwshd successfully.Set it to spin.Didnt start. I drained it. Checked the filter and used the red pull tab. how do i get the program to change?

No spin, or lite spin try these:

Using a multi meter check for continuity the door switch, which when bad may not allow agitation or spin. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically.

ON DIRECT DRIVE MODELS, Check the clutch, brake assembly and transmission, one way to check for slipping is to get under the machine after a spin cycle ( this is if u get a lil spin but not much leaving clothes still wet) mix in a spray bottle a lil water and some dish detergent, then spray it on the clutch assembly ( the metal round pc. Connected to the tranny) if it sizzles and steams up then u know its bad and slipping. Another way to check clutch if u get no spin at all? Is to take it out and use ur hand to try and turn the inner spring assembly pushing it around the inside? If its very easy, it BAD should be hard to push by hand.

Or try the hand test:

If no hammering sound has ever been heard out of this machine, one of the unofficial tests we professional appliantologists will do in the field is called the Hand Test. WARNING:This test is not sanctioned by Whirlpool Corporation; it involves bypassing safety equipment and then putting your hand on and near rotating machinery which could result in injury, dismemberment, disfigurement, disembowelment, mangling, hideous screaming, and a bloody death. Proceed at your own risk! Have a nice day.

- put the timer on a spin cycle and open the lid- grab the inner basket with maybe 30% to 40% of your hand strength with your left hand

- turn on the machine and bypass the lid switch by depressing the lid switch with a key until the machine begins to spin

- if the clutch is engaging properly, the basket should immediately begin to spin and slip through your hand

- if it takes very little force to stop the tub from spinning, the clutch needs to be replaced.

Next check the motor coupler which engages the tub and tranny to the motor. ( if its bad u usually get no wash or spin or very little of either)

On belt drive models, check for a loose, worn or broken belt if belt driven. And on some models there is no clutch but rather what is called a splutch. And a MODE shifter. These can go bad and effect the spin cycle.

On some front load models u may need to check the STATOR assembly.

The stator is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the stator burns out the washer won't spin or agitate. Check the stator for continuity. This part is often misdiagnosed.

Sometimes a no spin machine can be due to a plugged waterpump hose or obstructed water pump propeller. Check these by eye and hand and in some a meter continuity test.

One step u can take on direct drives is to remove the cabinet and jumper the lid switch harness (tan to gray). Put the unit in spin and watch the shiny metal clutch disc that is on top of the transmission where the shaft comes out. If the machine starts and runs in spin, check to see if the disc is spinning. If it is, then the problem is not in the gear case- look for trouble in the clutch, basket driveor the tub drive block

Kenmore (Inglis) washer leaking oil model 110.4826081 serial 2EE288532 year unknown

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

See the Whirlpool parts list for their commercial washers, the consumer model is essentially the same.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

The problem is likely either the transmission cover or the gearcase cover seal or the spin pinion seal.

Following is a good description from GURU JSROCK516 Description of how to remove cabinet and access the transmission. http://www.fixya.com/support/r699497-replacing_gearcase

When you pull the transmission, you should be able to tell where it is leaking.

In order to pull off the cover, pull the transmission, remove the clutch (there is a spring clip that holds the clutch on the main agitator shaft, remove the 8 screws carefully the transmission holds 16Oz of oil

Not sure if manifold is leaking

Leaks water...check the pump first. The fill valve and hoses may be the next step. See how to take apart info. With the use of plastic drain hoses on many machines today, this has become a common leak trouble maker. The drain hose can rub the wall or a pipe and this will rub a hole in the drain hose.
