Question about Vitamix 1320 / 1321 Professional 10 Speed Blender

4 Answers

I accidentally ran the machine with the clear plastic top inside...it had fallen in and I didn't notice it. I noticed the top was missing, so I just put something over it, but when I turned it on, it made a horrible noise and I thought it was having trouble chopping the ice, but it was the lid. Now it won't work.

I accidentally rant he machine with the plastic lid form top inside and it made a horrible noise, but I thought it was having trouble chopping the ice, so ran it some more, Now it doesn't work...it makes a bad noise and the blades don't go round...what do you think? Do you think the motor is burnt...doesn't really smell burnt...but, bad sound and not working means it needs repair...what do you suggest? Linda

So, who do I call to fix it? Actually, the machine is my roomates and she's on vacation, so I don't have the warranty info,. etc.

  • miralinda Jun 23, 2009

Do you mean that if I buy a new one at Walmart and keep it and then take the damaged one back and get a refund for damaged goods? Why would they take back a machine that someone damaged by carelessness? They would surely notice that it wasn't new and that it was damaged by me. Can you explain this better? Thank you. Linda

Well you burn out the motor so replace the whole thing and lets not tell anyone it will cost you more to ship it and ship it back and replace the motor then it would cost you to go to walmart and replace it with a new one keep the bill and take it back for refund on damaged goods

There is no doubt in my mind that u have burned out the blenders electric motor from a severe overload caused by the top u left in it , this motor is direst drive to the chopper blade so this is the only possibility based on my previous repairs of these types of appliance's.

what utter rubbish and bad advice. My wife did exactly the same - it is very easy to repair. Simply get a replacement drive socket, from vitamix, for about $15 - very easy to replace. It is designed to melt and break in such a situation. Just goes to show how tough the lid is.

This is bad advice. More than likely the motor is not burned out. The machine is designed so that cannot happen. The drive socket is designed to break/melt in such a situation. My wife did the same. We ordered a replacement drive socket from vitamix (ca $15) and it took ten minutes to replace. V simple. Machine now as new.

Without being there to smell the fumes one must assume the worst, a strong smell coming from any electrically driven appliance is in most cases a problem with the electric motor, the fact that the owner severely overloaded the appliance reinforces that opinion. To use language like "Utter Nonsense" is offensive and has no place on this website unless you aim is to just get everyone's juices flowing. Good day.

Want to make dried date shake in vitamix. recipe is 20 pitted dates, 1 cup milk do I need to soak dates first?

Dry or hydrated, I have done both ways. I really didn't notice a difference? The vitamix just beats it up so good, I don't think it matters? But that is my opinion.

Aren't they good though? : )

I took the spout of the smoothie plus 600 apart and can't put it back together

When you say you took the spout apart and can\'t put it back together its only 5 total pieces. The spout, the spring, the handle, the dispenser (rubber insert with plastic stem) and the threaded cap which holds the dispenser and handle to the spout.

If you can\'t get the handle to re attach, that does not surprise me. This is very poor craftsmanship. The plastic nobs that hold the handle onto the dispenser tend to break off.

If this is your problem, you can either, buy a new one for $5 plus shipping depending on where you live OR

You can fix the part that broke.

All you would need is a Drill, a small piece of number 14 copper about an inch long and same size drill bit. Drill the handle as close to center where the plastic molded nobs were located that either broke off or worn away. Then drill with the same size drill the stem to the dispenser which has the rubber stop attached. Drill this as close to the top of the stem where the nobs would snap in to hold the handle in place. You are basically making a pined handle, which will outlast the quality of this blender.

NOTE: You want to use a drill bit about the same size as the number 14 copper wire.

Then with one hand hold the threaded cap with the dispenser placed into position through the hole, be sure to put the spring in, small hole to the bottom of the rubber dispenser, pushing the spring and dispenser up through the threaded cap, attach the handle by putting the piece of copper wire in your hole which will connect your handle to the stem of the stopper. The copper should be cut no wider thent the width of the handle, if it sticks out a tiny bit, that\'s ok. The plastic cap will simply be carved out where the copper rubs against it. After that, simply screw the handle cap back onto the spout and screw the spout back onto the blender making sure the two washers are still on the pitcher.

All in all, for someone who is handy, this should take about 10 minutes. I would rate it about a 5 out of ten for difficulty simply because you have to drill straight and centered in the handle where the nobs were. Other then that its easy and if you can have someone help you put the pin in place, it would also make it easier.

If for some reason the rubber stop does not seem to go back into the spout, make sure the rubber didn\'t role up onto itself. Also if the spout drips, you didn\'t either put the spring back in or you didn\'t drill at the top of the plastic stem but some where in the middle, simply ream the hold towards the top where the plastic nobs would stop. Its a square reseated area in the stem. Looking at it you should be able to tell.

As for the spout instructions, you can download the pdf manual at the manufactures website: http://westbend.com/spl6white-smoothie-maker-plus-600.html

Hope it all helps, Its worked for me!

We have a Black & Decker BL9000 blender. On top of the base, there is a plastic disc that meshes with the bottom of the jar and drives the blades. I think one of the kids was making smoothies and...

Available replacement parts can be found here:

I have not seen the drive gear made available. You could try making an inquiry with either of the above sites to see if they can locate a replacement. Alternatively contact a local small appliance repair shop; they may be able to scavenge the part from another blender.
